If you are planning a hybrid engine, 24v head, we will renegotiate your infractions.
I like the idea one guy had about a forum for those of us who want an engine with the 24v head and a "P" pump!!! #ad

HVAC,
Get a new truck with an automatic. You can probably sell three grains of sand off that california coast you live on to pay for the new baby.

Or you can put 'ole red back to work to pay for it.

You know Scott is going to produce a killer machine up north and I suspect PIERS will create a 36 valver by merging the two blocks together and mounting his drivers seat on the end of it like in Dr strangelove.

Ye HAAA

Yeah, three grains of sand would describe my purchasing capacity all right! LOL Red is like me, doesn't like work anymore, just truck play. I am not allowed to park next to the pipe rack he used to tote either, makes him nervous.

On the topic, I have been in touch with Tony at Dunrite in SoCal. He is building a race transmission for Doctor Diesel at DD. This should prove interesting as I expect I will be next in line for a sliptoglide. Like the guy said, it will be strange not rowing through the gears at each light. I will need to install a new handhold for my right paw I reckon.

THERE'S ALWAYS ONE OF THOSE transmission TUNNEL/FLOOR MOUNT AUTO SHIFTERS, OPPOSED TO THE COLUMN... .

BUT YOU MAY HAVE TO LEAN DOWN TO REACH IT... AND IF YOU HAVE A PASSENGER IN THE TRUCK...

WELL, IMAGINE THE VIEW FROM BEHIND YOU AT THE LIGHT????

BOTH HANDS ON THE WHEEL HVAC =)

There have been several GM 4L80-E autos fitted to the Cummins. I'm told the Cummins uses a bellhousing adapter that allows several different manufacturer's transmissions to bolt up. So, just get the GM trans adapter.....

I know Jet has sold some of their performance 4L80-E transmissions to Dodge owners. These transmissions are rated at 700 lb-ft and 25,000 GVW. They also have a 6-speed conversion available for the 4L80-E.

Jet also sells an installation kit that includes an ECM and all other components to make it work.

Someone mentioned earlier that their gas 350 Suburban has gone through a few transmissions..... The smallbock gas engines all got the 4L60-E, not the 4L80-E. Only GM's 454 and diesels got the 4L80-E.

More Power

Hey Mucho Power! Thank you very mucho! For one thing I am happy to hear that the Sloburban would probably have a different transmission than the one I have been steered towards. David_VT is not all that happy with the Sillyburban, he actually makes it sleep outside, even in winter! #ad
Cruel and unusual punishment you say? Punishment befitting the crimes David_VT would say!! HE!!

I will check the cool stuff you have layed at my feet. Some very constructive data I might say. Heck Piers would love to see me runnin a transmission outta a Cerwin-Vega for his benefit!!! LOL #ad

The Allisons are very strong and can take a lot of abuse. When I ran a quality and reliability test cell for Allisons, on some test I would put a load on the transmission so hard that the paint would burn off the converter, and the case would be hot enough to make drips of water sizzle. Drop the pan, change the fluid out, do some checks and fire it back up. Even the ones that I did manage to destroy would still pull a sizable load with new fluid and filter.

I know I tested a few that were used in the European truck races (medium duty big rig trucks) so that tells me they can handle any power we can muster up out of a 5. 9. I believe the trucks were seeing HP numbers well past the 1500 point.

You know how it is, want to play, gotta pay.

Hey HVAC, just some more thoughts to add to your dilema:

The adapter is available, Cummins to GM, as GM uses the 4L80E in the Frito Lay trucks with a cummins in front. Someone a while back swapped a Cummins into a HUMVEE using this adapter. (check the archives, I don't have any idea where I saw it, but was definitly the TDR site. ) Junked FritoLay truks should be available somewhere, if not try Cummins as someone else suggested.

The 4L80E should be up to the task with moderate BOMBing, but as other people suggested, would be easier with the 47R (H/E)

From my experience, stay away from Tony. He may be ok if you live next door, but his customer service could be better, and his quality is nothing to write home about. Try Dave Goerend, or DTT/Kondolay. Have no personal experience with Kondolay, but everyone that has his stuff raves about it. Dave I have had experience with, and he is PHENOMONAL to work with, and really seems to know his way around. He could probably work with you either way, 4L80E or 47R.

If you'd like to hear about my experiences with the above people, feel free to email me.

Good Luck!

Bob - you just love digging up the old stuff don't ya. . :D

For those of you that don't know, HVAC installed a 47RE with a manual valve body and DTT parts, at least that is the last I heard.

alright nowel, two suggestions

take a stock dodge transmission and make it a B&M clutch flight1 it would way cool. a clutch flight is an auto matic with a full manual valver body and a clutch in the front, ... . u take off with a clutch and sfift just like an auto, ... ... . reeeeally cool, ... . or just do it right the first time and never do it again, ... ... ... . LENCO, ultimate bad ass transmission and they have versions now that are easy to use on the street. There is now better than the lenco, ... . a fuller is huge, slow shifting and is gonna wait u down, but if u bought the fuller, u would have to put on 19. 5 tires and u would be a big trucker then, lol, ... good luck HVAC!

Those Were The Daze

GWhiz Bob! What a rush to reread that old topic:) That's back when Joe Donnelly and "Scourge Of The North" were battling against me and my persuit of 24v world domination:eek:

Did you guys spot that line where I suggest that Piers (Scourge Of The North) would prefer I utilize a transmission outta a Cerwin Vega? Cerwin Vega is a stereo speaker manufacturer BTW, no connection with the GM Vega. Aw shucks! Never mind:)

Things sure were less tense back then (more FUN). I miss our boys Porky, Pete Peterson, Mad Max, Chad, BMann, and the rest.

For those just signing on, I have a DTT transmission which was installed last year around the beginning

of April. We swapped it out at Bill's shop in Bobbitsford. Later Bill sent me a manual valve body which I installed and the auto transmission truly began to shine. From that day I have had zero traction!!! I just switched to slicks this spring to get the truck to hook up and we ran 12. 80 @ 109. We only have two complete runs on the truck. Mostly cause I keep blowing hoses at mid track when the twin turbos come on strong.

Tomorrow I will once again be at the track to whittle my time down a bit. I just replaced one turbo and double clamped all the hose connections on the intake tract. With well over 600 horses on diesel only I'm hoping for some new best times.

To Bob W. and all you lil bobbers, the DTT transmission is nothing short of AWESOME! We will be taxing it more and more as we progress with our racing program. At this time I am planning a change to a higher stall converter that is designed for use with lock up. The DTT converter is very strong but it is hard to build boost at the line without the tires spinning. We need to be able to leave the line with 20 psi and lock the converter asap. We have only experimented with locking the TC in OD so far.
