The Allisons are very strong and can take a lot of abuse. When I ran a quality and reliability test cell for Allisons, on some test I would put a load on the transmission so hard that the paint would burn off the converter, and the case would be hot enough to make drips of water sizzle. Drop the pan, change the fluid out, do some checks and fire it back up. Even the ones that I did manage to destroy would still pull a sizable load with new fluid and filter.
I know I tested a few that were used in the European truck races (medium duty big rig trucks) so that tells me they can handle any power we can muster up out of a 5. 9. I believe the trucks were seeing HP numbers well past the 1500 point.
