Hello. I put a post on another thread about a head gasket blown, but wanted to make this clearer by being more specific here.

I want to upgrade my head by O-ringing, port/polishing, studding and adding the stronger valve springs.

I just bought 370 injectors and want to get the head in order before installing them. I have a spare engine to use the head off of and will be able to send it out for the work without having my truck down for long periods of time.

I plan a turbo, exhaust manifold and cam upgrade, as well as the head upgrades when I do the injector swap.

Any of yall have any suggestions on who to (and NOT) to use for head work, stud kit, performance turbo, exhaust manifold, 4000 rpm governor springs, and a performance cam?

How do you advance the timing? I will have the front cover open to swap the cam, so now wil be the time for all of this!

Thanks for the help!

John

BTW, this is for my 1996 and I already have the large diameter Southbend CON/OFE clutch, 4" exhaust and AFE air filter/Psychotty air, as well as guages.

C'mon folks. LOL All these views and no suggestions? Surely some of yall have been happy or pi$$ed with vendors you have dealt with. Give me some recommendations who to use and information about who not to trust... .

I am looking for the following upgrades and I prefer to use one vendor for all of it if possible: (vendors, please feel free to chime in too because the business will come your way if you can help me out)

1. Head work- I have a spare engine (1997 model 190 horse) which I plan to pull the head off of to be sent out for porting, polishing, valve springs and O-ringing, plus I will want to do the head stud upgrade, most likely the 12 mm so I can do as little block (in frame) work as possible.

2. Cam shaft- I am looking for a "HOT" one

3. Turbocharger- Also looking for a "HOT" one. I want to stick with a single turbo setup, but want it to be optimized for drivability and the 370 injectors

4. Pump work- I am looking into a 4000 rpm governor kit, as well as timing adjustment. I will have the front cover off, so I just need to know the timing advance procedure. If it is more economical, I would also consider sending the P7100 pump (again off the 190 horse engine) off with the head to have all the work done to it (delivery valves, governor work, rack travel adjustments, etc)

5. Exhaust manifold- will need a free flowing one that will work with the bigger turbo and ported/polished head.

Like I said, I am looking to get as much of this stuff as possible from the same vendor to save on freight and haggles, as well as to have the most optimized setup. I will be doing the installation myself and I am a "perfectionalist" when it comes to my mechanical work.

Thanks for any help yall might be able to offer.

from what ive read peirs does great head work

visit thier web site and read about the diffrent stages they offer. pretty neat. piers also has some of the best turbo for our trucks. look at the b1 series or possibly their modified hx40. th b1 series are alot more expensive and may not be what you absoultely need. from what ive read the pdr hx40 have performed very well over 45psi, which is what piers waste gates them at. also give piers a call and tell them what you want to do. i know they would be more than happy to help you get the right setup. keep us posted on what ya do!

Thanks for the info Wes. After several folks' advice, I believe Piers is the man for the job. I will keep yall posted on what I do, but it will be gradual. Gonna start with the head work, turbo and pump, then do it as I get time/money to install it all.

Thanks again...

John;

Get the stuff from Piers and then get Jeff to put it all together and tune the pump for ya. After that, Dyno it on David's dyno.

Josiah, I will definately take you up on the offer of puttin this thing on the dyno when I get it ready. I plan to do most of the work myself though. Half the fun is doing a project like this myself. I may have Jeff do the pump work, or I may just get a "Piers prep" on the spare pump I have and swap it out while I am at it. I have most of the tools and plan to get the rest before I begin the job. The dyno is definately in the plans though, and it looks like I will get what I can from Piers.

I am also going to look into having someone "bomb" the pump/delivery valve and injector on the Polaris. I have to replace the head gasket on it and while I have the pump/delivery valve and injector out, might as well tweak it, huh? ;-)

I'll keep yall posted on the upgrades as I make progress. So far all I have is the 370 injectors...
