now this i would pay to see. ok day 3 and still no one has tried my test. why 5 miles? well if you can find 10, 20,or 30 miles, more power to ya. here in L. A. if you do 50 mph on the freeway you get shot. that is if you could just go 50 with all of our traffic. guys this ain't that hard!

I don't want to steal Greg's thread but what kind of mileage should we be getting from our Cummins powered trucks?

If a guy is getting 25mpg is that high or is he high



I think with a 3. 73 gear at 65mph 20+ mpg isn't an impossible achievement.

IMHO, a reasonable test of milage should be at least 100 miles, and be round-trip to average out any effects of wind and grade change. When I lived in Colorado I could drive from the Eisenhower (sp) tunnel to the west side of Denver (50 miles) on about 1 gallon of fuel.

OK, if W can come clean on his National Guard records I can come clean on my fuel economy. Below is my fuel economy for every fill up since I bought the truck in mid-July last year. Most of my driving is mixed between city and highway miles. I've had it up to 100MPH once or twice. Usually I cruise the highways between 80MPH and 90MPH. When I travel long distance I use the cruise control. While I like to vary the RPM, I don't treat it like a three-legged dog. I never cruise less than 70MPH unless the traffic forces me to. When filling the tank I like to get about $3-$4 of additional fuel in the tank to top it off. Based on the above, these are my hand calculated MPG's since I bought the truck:

And for those who are wondering, that works out to a nice average of 16. 82MPG and an average of 441. 18 miles to the tank, though the latter is determined by how often you fill up. Based on how I drive and what I am getting I don't doubt that some, especially the older drivers are getting mid-20s by keeping it under 70MPH and not towing. It seems the MPG killers are tach over 2000RPM, 4X4, towing and the 4. 10 rear end. I've even found that my mileage is a bit better in mixed city/highway driving than either all city or all highway driving. Go figure...

Finally ... an honest man! PBeaudoin is to be complimented. I hope these other yo-yos will go back under their rock. It's possible to get better than 22 or 23 (I know, because I've done it!) but only with a tail wind, driving downhill, or keeping the RPMs on 1700 or 1800. But who wants to drive that slow?Oo.

that sounds a little more realistic. I hav a best of 18 and a worst of 13. 5. And the trip computor is reall fairly acurate if you reset it each time although it is always a MPG long on my truck but it is always consistantly long. I would say that my truck with the way I noramlly drive it gets right at 15 and i am OK with that. I do know that the truck will do 110 and stiil gain slowly. I am afraid that my 02 would have it on the top end because of the 3. 55s. I hape every one knows that all Gregg Taylor was trying to do is simply see who could get the best on the computor on a short run just to have fun and not care if it was scientifically computed and up to NASA specs on accuracy. I am gonna add a continuem transfunctioner to my truck and that should help me abot 5 mpg.

I guess that makes me honest

I forgot to mention on my original post that I have been getting an average of 17 around town with a few short highway runs. Greg asked what our BEST mileage was not our average. I figured mine was more accurate than the 5 mile test because it was based on a full tank of fuel. Like I said my best mileage was 21. 5 averaging 65 mph, no stop and go traffic.

Haven't touched mine in months and it reads 1. 5 mpgs too high - 21. 5. My calculated mpgs up and down the pass are usually in the very low 20s - 20. 1, 20. 07, 20. 5, etc.

well I really don't give a rats a$$ if any of you believe the mileage some of us are getting or not.

My truck amazes me by the mileage it gets. I do alot of long hauls not towing(that's how the truck has 52,300 miles in less than 15 months) I take highways, and drive smart and usually right around 2000rpms. When I got 26. 1 from Charlotte to the OBX the truck came to a stop 2 times in 350 miles, and unfortunately there is about 100 miles of 55mph and unless you really want a ticket you can't do a penny over 65 and that's really pushing it.



It really seems there are some that get great mileage and some that appear to be gassers with their mileage.
