Ford Ranger Question

What do you see?

My solution to prepay and waiting in line is my own tank. Sometimes I pay a month after I pump when the bill comes in the mail.

Clark,

There should be some sort of card lock system like CFN in your area. That's the best deal. No clerks. Open 24 hours. Monthly bill from a local oil dealer. Usually cheaper than other places.

The only ones I have seen are fuelman stations. The fuelman fleetcard system really sucks, we used to use them at the place I work at. Some of the walmarts around here have a station like that in front of them. I am not putting anything from wal mart in my truck!!!! lol

Clark,

I just checked the nationwide CFN locator. None in OK, IA, or AR. Was it something you said to pi$$ them off?:D:D:confused:

Mebbe you big-city fellers look suspicious! Out here in God's Country, the cashiers wave at you when you pull up to the pump and have your coffee ready when you go inside to pay AFTER you pumped! Gotta love a small town! :D

ah yes, the great state of komifornia where i live, you have to prepay for everything, guns are a no no, off roading why that will endanger the yellow bellied snapping clam bird thingie, everyone gets to be on welfare and drive nice cars while i work my buttt off and give half my check to pay for them. oh wait, i guess i got a little off subject. cant even remember the last time you could get fuel without prepaying around here

rubberneck,

I haven't pre-payed for fuel in the last ten years here in California. Always pay at the pump or CFN card lock. I just don't buy fuel anywhere else. CFN is really nice. I very seldom wait in line. Most of the time there is a pump available. Plenty of room because the places are built for big rigs.

My #1 fueling station never ever has asked me or anyone to prepay.

I've filled my truck up at the pump, go in to pay - pick up a Pepsi and honey bun, and they don't even ask if I had fuel. I have to tell them to charge me for the fuel on pump #10 also.

Charlie,

This one is a map of the states that have CFN:

And this one is how to find the closest one to where you are:

My local CFN dealer sent me a map of all the northern CA locations when I signed up. It's the same outfit that has delivered our home heating oil for the last 25 years so all it took was a phone call to get a card from them. We get a monthly bill from them no matter where we use our CFN card.

Jumbo Jet,

The big deal about pay at the pump or card lock is that no conversation is needed with any clerk. Especially important for people like me with a hearing problem. I bought some fuel along I40 in Ft. Smith on a trip to see relatives in Yell County (also a cousin in Ft. Smith) and had to deal with some mumbling clerk that I was never able to understand.

Same here Jumbo Jet. I live just south of Springfield Missouri. Good old country folk. I have never been asked to pre pay or even seen it done. Of course with all of the Deer rifles down here I am sure they could pick you off before you got 100 yards from the station :D

Here is Raleigh, some make you pay and some don't. I don't frequent the ones that make you pay in advance. I like the idea of getting a receipt for the money before going back out to pump. I'm going to have to try that one if I end up in a pay first station.

Jack

Big Toy, and Jumbo, i too live in a small community in Arkansas. I usually pay at the pump just for the convience, but there are a couple of stations that i use just because the clerks are friendly and have been around for a while.

This one female clerk where I fill up just gets all mushy over my truck. I make it a habit to go in just to see and listen to her. She says it's the prettiest truck she's ever seen.

It's worth it to just go inside.

What about going into a station,to give them your credit card, this actually happend to me at a British Petrolium station,I gave them my card and I said im filling pump 8 well after I got done I went back, and the stupid B$%ch gave my card to someone eles,im still trying get this worked out with the dumb A$$

And I still had to pay for the fuel, had no cash on me,so I said to call the cops, and she wouldn't so I did,she was a real dummy,so I had to go through canceling my card, and getting a new one but it is still on my credit card.

That's worse than an experiance I had but get this one. On the way to work one day with my Ford van, I stop for gas. This station actually had someone to pump it so I sit in the truck. Attendent finishes up, I pay and go. Get out of the truck 1/2 block away and notice my gas cap hanging on the wire. Open the hatch and lo and behold, there is someone else's cap there. Fire the motor back up and rush back to the station. I catch the light but sitting there, I see the attendent and this really PO'd guy looking around. Guy takes his cap, blasts off in a huff. O'll ragheads looking a bit sheepish, me, LMAO.

Some local kids had their own way to get around paying before pumping. They would pull into a closed station with their van equipped with a 300 gallon tank and 12 volt pump, run their suction hose down the in-ground tank fill hole then fill up. Things were going great until they got caught selling discount gas in the high school parking lot.
