Job Hunting: Boiler, steam engineer, oil and gas job in NW Pa/NE Ohio

Got myself a new Titainium Frame for the old rig.

Ryan's post about ricers got me thinking. The trend around here is putting dual exhaust on your gasser pickup, exiting through some chrome tips either side of the hitch. Glasspacks, cherry bombs, whatever they are called now.

Anyway, do they wire tie these things up or what? Everyother one I see with these pipes has them bouncing up and down off their bumper. Does everyones exhaust clamp break at the same point? Do people drive and expect things not to become loose? Look at it once in a while.

The best part is when both pipes are loose, only one bounces up and the other goes down.

Cheap clamps and hangers are used by most muffler shops.

My W350 used to break all the hangers about every 3 months till I got rid of 40 lbs of muffler. :-laf :-laf

Now I break about 1 a year.

Where I work I do quite a bit of custom exhaust. You would not belive the crap that other places pass off as "dual exhaust. " The hangers are crappy, they can't/don't weld them on, if they do I've seen people weld better with a nail and a battery.

If they dont' route the pipe over the differential right... . Instant hanger breaker...

I could go on for hours... .

I broke mine on my 1500 gasser all the time. if it wasnt metal fatigue breaking the hanger, it was a crappy cheap clamp, if not that, it was the rubber wearing out on the hanger. I love the sound and look of "duals" but they are a pain in the ***. after the last hanger broke and the muffler rusting out, I just cut it off and put a turn down on it until I traded it in. It was LOUD, but oh well. I think it has alot to do with the fact that it goes from one single twisting pipe by the Cat too duals in the rear that are mounted at two locations a minimum of 3' apart, and it does torque the pipe every time you rev the engine. So it puts stress on the hangers, and they break.

Sounds like some female joggers I've seen.....

I had a 98 Z71 with true duals that run back along each side of the hitch. No bouncing or wiggling and has not broke to this day.
