Why is diesel so loud?

Saudi Oil/King Fahd

Well when its warm enough I'm running 100% biodiesel and that been pretty expensive around 2. 86 with winter additives. I am however looking to adding a second heated tank so I can run vegetable oil/biodiesel year round. I'm not giving up my truck... .....

If I get 500 Miles to a tank I can drive to to&from work 96 times, and the boss picks up my fuel bill @ 100. 00 a month. Nope I'm keeping the CTD :)

No Way. Two more years of $1021 payments and she is all mine (36 payments of 0%). Besides I don't think they make very many straight 6 gassers anymore. I sold my 1995 F150 300 I6 to get this truck and I specifically bought this truck because it has a straight 6 in it, just like the 6 in the old 1970 J2000 truck that I had before the F150. And the 6 in the 1966 Rambler that was replaced by the 1970 J2000 truck. I bought the truck for the longevity of the engine, not because it is a diesel. The price of diesel is not a factor. Oh and the fact that the wife found out that there is air conditioning in the 5th wheel trailers. :-laf

Nope, won't give up either of them, unless one of them turns out to be a lemon. :D Got other gassers here I could drive, but I just prefer the CTD. Now, when it warms up, I think the bike will be coming out a little more often. :D

I'd BUILD a motorcycle with a small (yanmar or Kubota) diesel before I sold my truck.

Wouldn't a diesel moped be a great commuter? I bet you could get 200mpg!

I just took delivery of my 05 yesterday (3/8), replacing the 96. One of the fuel issues I was more concerned with than price was the upcoming switch to ULSD. I figured an 05 common-rail engine has a better shot of running properly on ULSD than the old mechanical 12v.

I plan on making all 60 payments on the 05 :)

Price jumped 20 cents between 2/25 and 3/4, from $1. 939 to $2. 139, and another 2 cents to $2. 159 as of yesterday. A 28-gallon fill up just cost me $62. 00.

Actually, Im driving much less. I just did a trip to my ranch in Northern calif and had my trailer in tow. It was a $300 fuel bill this trip. I think Im going to draw the line at that. Ive been driving my Corvette lately as the weather is just beautiful, but in the long run, I feel we will have high diesel prices for quite some time. Im thinking of selling my Corvette :{ and buying one of those new Toyota (real ugly ugly boxy looking car) that is $14k and gets over 40 mpg on regular. For now, im just going to use the CTD for hauling the trailer. Other than that, I think it will just be yard candy.
For the record, Diesel in Grants Pass Oregon is above the $2. 70 mark, yet when I was in Calif, I bought at $2. 29... . What a deal! To fill my rig in Oregon is just over $90. That is a crock!

Hmmm... I think you've stumbled on an amazing example of a "mixed blessing". On the one hand, you're getting 200 mpg. On the other hand you're on a [snicker] moped. :-laf

I'd have to add in the medical bills to the cost... my friends would beat me up every day for driving the moped. :-laf

Disclaimer: I'm not saying anyone is "wrong" or "bad" for driving a moped, and I'm not trying to insult anyone who owns and operates one. But you gotta admit, they're kinda funny lookin'.

Riding a moped is just like riding a fat chick..... it's all fun and games till ur friends see ya... ..... LOL

Please I don't mean to offend anyone... . LOL

I've had four of these trucks now and before that a Mazda B-2600 4 cylinder and I could almost get out of a wet paper bag if I needed and it never got any better fuel economy than 18-20 it. I get that now Oo. the best part is when one of these little gassers pulls up next to me and wants to go I just kick the attitude up to 4 or 5 and I am gone, you wont see me without it any time soon.....

I need a truck, but I could get by with a 1/2 ton. I would have to borrow my uncles truck once in a while though. One of the reasons I got this truck is it gets better mileage than anything else that will do the same job. I can't think of another vehicle that can even compare.

Nope me either, i got it and if i even have to drain all the fluids and park inside a barn i will not sell it. I agree the fuel prices are outfrigginragous but it won't take much more and well the pple as a whole i think will start sending a message if not then we are in for a serious trickle affect on the economy. Basically just get you some vaseline and get ready its a coming..... i shall not elaborate any further on that one. but this is just my opinion...

I'm commuting 100 miles each day with my '03 and am averaging 22mpg. I just can't see paying for the purchase price, sales tax, license registration fees, insurance, and maintenance on a second "economy" vehicle just to save a few bucks per day on fuel. To make it financially worthwhile would require a very small, light car. Self preservation dictates that if I'm involved in an accident I want to be in a larger vehicle, not a tiny one.

Today’s Flying J price for diesel in Boise is $2. 459. I don’t like it, but (IMHO) I think it will come back down after the heating season eases consumption a bit. We’ll probably never see “cheap” fuel again (diesel or gas), but diesel will probably come back to a closer ratio to gas (here in Boise the difference between regular gas and diesel is 53 cents).

Back when Noah first got off the ark (1955), I bought about 4 ½ gallons of gas for an hour’s pay. Do the math and things might not look all that bad today. When private sector consumers talk boycotts and protests I don’t think they have much impact. After all, the trucking industry, railroads, and other industrial users, have far more powerful influence than we do. If protests could change things, these big customers would surely have changed things by now.

However, I’ll watch my speed, be a little more careful about unnecessary trips, keep tires inflated correctly, make e—a—s—y starts and stops, and drive the car a bit more than usual.

absolutly not i will never sell my ctd,if it gets to be a prablem then ill slow down alittle and stop eating at mcdonalds,u know these trucks can do really well in the mpg dept if we slowed down alittle, there is not really going to be that much diff between a gasser truck then ares unless its a honda or somthing, but i dont drive a throwaway
