Today’s Flying J price for diesel in Boise is $2. 459. I don’t like it, but (IMHO) I think it will come back down after the heating season eases consumption a bit. We’ll probably never see “cheap” fuel again (diesel or gas), but diesel will probably come back to a closer ratio to gas (here in Boise the difference between regular gas and diesel is 53 cents).
Back when Noah first got off the ark (1955), I bought about 4 ½ gallons of gas for an hour’s pay. Do the math and things might not look all that bad today. When private sector consumers talk boycotts and protests I don’t think they have much impact. After all, the trucking industry, railroads, and other industrial users, have far more powerful influence than we do. If protests could change things, these big customers would surely have changed things by now.
However, I’ll watch my speed, be a little more careful about unnecessary trips, keep tires inflated correctly, make e—a—s—y starts and stops, and drive the car a bit more than usual.
