My truck is old already.

[QUOTE=JUeckert;

grizzly, your ford experience reminds me of a 1/2 ton dodge i had years ago,

I can agree with that. I have heard of many having problems with their 1/2 or 1500 Dodge trucks and Dakotas. These trucks are made in St. Louis, Canada and Detroit. I'll get a lot of flack for this, but I don't care. The problem is the UAW. They just don't care about producing a good product. They only care about how much money they make. The auto workers in Mexico on the other hand do care about their jobs because the $4 or so per hour they get is good pay for them and because there is a long line outside the plant waiting to take their job if they get fired.

And we have a winner!!! Same thing I said before. I was actually expecting to get my post torn apart, but guys started in on each other and...

I just wanted to highlight this, because its the truth. I wouldnt cry if the automakers went non-Union. If they really want to return to profits, thats what they need to do. If I had the money or could get financial backing, Id buy Chrysler and can the Union. Union workers dont like it, hit the road. Theres plenty of people to hire that would work non-union, especially now.

Add my name to the list of those who agree about labor unions.

Years ago there was a story in the Dallas Morning News about Wal-Mart meat butchers voting in favor of bringing in a union. Wal-Mart had the perfect solution. They eliminated all meat cutters! No more problem.

Add mine to the list too. Unions served their purpose years ago, but they're a bunch of greedy fat cats who could care less about the worker. All they want is the kickbacks and perks.

Screw the UAW for screwing the American worker.

guess i can be added also. to a degree the union workers are to blame. i know a few of these folks, and they all have the thats not in my job title attitude. i'am sure there are many who are hard productive workers, and to be honest i point more of the blame to the upper ends [ the bean counters]. getting the bottom line price on a part that barey makes the grade, gets the vehicle off the lot and into a consumers driveway. it saves companies on their bottom line, but when the product fails[especially out of warranty] the consumer gets his wallet emptied.

It would be my luck that after years of writing letters and phone calls, pleading for them to build a six man cab with an eight foot bed, they would go out of business. Just when they decide to build one. The irony is making me tear up!

The news on Allpar.com indicates the Chrysler-Fiat merger is going to happen but I think our Dodge-Cummins trucks are safe. What I read in the brief news article is Fiat will become a part owner in Chrysler and Chrysler will begin marketing Fiats with Dodge/Chrysler badges in the US and, I guess, Chrysler will participate in marketing Fiat/Chryslers in Europe.

I don't think we should worry about our Dodges being supported with parts or new Dodge trucks being sold.

I hope the 2010 Rams come out and they put better ball joints and universals in them. That was my big problem with my old truck.

yea great ball joints I had to ruin my hubs to swap my ball joints. transmission dead at 105. 000 all in a stock truck and the cab leak never fixed and the lift pump failure. Lucky I like the engine.

Totally Agree

I do not agree with you on Dodge being a piece of junk. Both of my Dodge's have been excellent. On the other hand, prior to my 95 Dodge, I had an F250 Furd, which was junk from bumper to bumper with the engine (gas) being the worst part.

Your right grizz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This 05 has been a total bullit. Last summer i ran this dam thing for over 22 hours towing without shutting it off.

I had the reflash done for the PO191 and that has been it:rolleyes:

Dam remarkable truck... .

Mac:cool:

Yesterday I was doing a web search on ISB engines and wound up on the Ford web
site. Many of you probably know this but the Ford medium duty trucks already use
our Cummins ISB engines along with Allison automatics. Ouch!!!! Is this a sign of
things to come at Ford for the pickup line? If our battered company survives, they
will face some nasty competition.

nardelli screwed over home depot by eliminating the better trained and paid workers and hiring inexperienced help to replace them and with his cutting of good engineers and managers at chrysler he repeated his home depot failure program. i don't think he is considered a wall street golden boy anymore.

it is hard to say where chrysler would be if the economy had remained "good"

i believe that if the company is forced into bankruptcy it will be junked out. cerebus is not a car manufacturer and neither is the committee offering advice.

by the way, i have owned a '96 dakota 4 cyl, a '03 3500 dully quad cab CTD 2x, a '04 2500 quad cab long bed with a hemi, and a '05 3500 dully quad cab CTD 4x prior to buying the '08, yes none of them where perfect, but they did everything i asked of them and then some.

i'm counting on the 2010 3500 slt crew cab, CTD, 6sp auto, long bed, 4x4 in my driveway will become a reality. (nope, not getting rid of the 5500, just need a daily driver).

Good point. I think if Bob Lutz was still running the show, we wouldn't be having this discussion. I don't buy the BS that Chrysler can't survive on its own- Mazda and Subaru seem to be doing just fine.

The biggest culprit both financially and in quality control is in Stuttgart. We had better QC before, and we're just now getting it back. I like to blame the unions too, but when you put the power to fix problems down where it belongs, people WILL get it right because nobody actually WANTS to put out an inferior product. The Cummins has been an available option for the medium duty Ford trucks for 10 years at least.

... and Furd will never use the Cummins in their light duty super duty because the engine bay is too small. They have a difficult time getting the V8 powerjoke as it is now. I don't believe furd is willing to re-tool to fit a longer engine.

macdaddy, I totally agree. I've done the same thing on many long trips by switching drivers. I only shut down long enough to re-fuel, eat and p. I see you also have the good bullet proof transmission.
