Competition My New Turbo....

Competition Dyno Day in Michigan @ Livernois

It was a pretty good event, I didn't do as well as I thought I would due to choosing too low a gear to pull in.

There really weren't that many trucks pulling, maybe 20 or so total. Almost everyone who came out, went there to watch and I was pretty disappointed with that as just about everyone who came out had a truck that could pull the sled, just too many didn't want to break or loose a clutch I guess.

BBD won the extreme class and there were a few interesting exibition pulls. One GMC 2WD transporter towing rig was pretty tough as it pulled about 270 ft. or so. I was pretty embarassed to be out pulled by over 100 ft. much less a 2wd!! I only pulled 160 ft. , but if I chose 4th gear 4 low then I probably would have got a lot further. I couldn't believe that Craig was pulling in 5th gear 4 low, but he has the proper clutch for pulling and mine was holding, but not on the way home in 3rd through 5th gears it slips pretty good @ peak torque. Guess it is time to do it right and junk the Centerforce and call SBC. Lesson learned and now I know as some of you are probably going to re-iterate to me. :-laf

At least I know, if any of those stock Duramaxs that kicked everyone's a$$ ever wanna play follow the leader up a hill or on some muddy trail, bring it on. My rig is more for off-roading than pulling by far. But it should do better next year when there is a 13. 25" SBC in there. Then I'll have more guts to go with 4th gear 4 low for the pull.

Why the poor sport? Admit the Duramax's and TTS came out and took the trophys, seems to me the ruled the track. You entered the contest bet you wouldn't be looking to go "mudding" if you won.

I'd imagine that there was more than one Duramax that would be willing to hand your A$$ to you on the asphalt and a hill climb, you should have asked instead of bringing it to the forum and whining. ;)

Better luck next year,we'll have time to tweak too!!

Mac :D :D :D

I think that covers it. I really want to thank everyone again for coming out, It was great getting to talk to everybody, and I apologize if I didn't get the chance - crazy day. I was litterally directing some staff members on the 2 way radio while hooking to the sled. The temp needle wasn't even off the cold stop when I started my first pull. I also want to thank everyone in the extreme class for coming out, all of them traveled a long distance to get there. Especially Frank and his crew who came from Pennsylvania to attend this pull, and one of his crew members (David Weller, who I now consider a friend) who ended up doing all the announcing for the pulls as I got totally consumed with other things. Thanks Bud. Frank you and your crew are A1 and I want to thank you and everyone that came out with you, its our pleasure having you guys pull with us out here. Then there is Scott Vorhees, this guy has supported this event before it was even a reality. Its guys like him who make sled pulling fun to watch. That truck is awesome and believe it or not its a daily driver. It only comes in on a trailer because its an 8 hour tow home if it breaks. Scott took home $1,000 dollars for winning both Ext . classes and he deserves every penny. He stripped that immaculate truck to the bone to make the 7500 class, nothing but a drivers seat in the cab and no rear bumper. Also thanks to Brian Kinney for coming out and Chris Sutton who practically drove through the night to make it. I hope all of you know how much I appreciate you coming out. Also a special thanks to High Roller Offroad and Super Diesel out of Huntington Beach for Title sponsoring the event, couldn't do it without all the help. Also Hunter Dodge, Antelope Valley Ford, and all the other vendors. The promotion help from the Turbo Diesel Register was priceless - Thank you. Without doubt, a huge thank you to all the people who volunteered their time to make this event happen. Bob Horrell with the tractor work and Scott Bragdon with the water truck - couldn't have done it without you guys.

The Dmax boys were tough in the Street class as I knew they would be, and they are a great bunch. I'm not letting them off the hook so easy next time though. My tired old truck has 120,000 miles on it and has to tow a 13,000 lb gooseneck horse trailer on a regular basis. I'm coming with a little something extra next year though - like a real healthy set of injectors just for pulling and a way to hook it up. That was my biggest problem, I think I had as much or more wheel speed as anyone in the class, just couldn't get it laid down. Pretty happy with my 2nd in the 7500 class, but couldn't hook it up in the 8500 for some reason. Got a bad line on the track or something. That won't happen again. It was great meeting and talking to everybody.

Thanks again everyone.

Craig

Thanks, scramblin! I appreciate that. :)

MACKIN, STFU! Don't talk trash if you can't back it up and where did you get the idea I was being a poor sport and that I was whining? I admitted that the duracraps kicked my a$$ and I don't care. I didn't see you out there participating. Like I said, my truck isn't made for pulling and I did the best that it could. If I really wanted to "try" and kick some a$$, I would have done it in 4th gear 4 low and smoked the clutch all the way to the 250ft. + mark and maybe still lost, but I just wanted to see what my rig could do, and obvioulsy 3rd gear was too low. All those Izuzu powered Chevy's can blow it out their a$$ for all I care.

Yeah, and the fact that I didn't get all the slack out of the chain didn't excatly help either. I was watching my gauges and didn't realize I rolled back a couple inches, let the clutch out a little too fast, broke the tires loose and BAM! That chain stopped me pretty good before I got rolling, just didn't get enough momentum from that gear.

Good Job Scott! It sounds like the trans held up huh?

Chris, you should have stayed in Redding, there were some pretty impressive trucks there on Sat. Were you having trouble with the locker? Harvey said that they were working on your rig before you went south.

Just got in a few hours ago, spent the night down south and headed home this morning.

Craig thanks for the kind words Bro, but this event was all you, I didn't do anything, I would love to help out but its a distence thing :D

Oh yeah, big thanks on scoring the best purses we have ever seen in Califonia. I couldn't resist gutting the inside of the truck to get in that 7500lb class :D heck there wasn't even a third truck anybody could have pulled and taken $200 for last :D

I think this event turned out great for a first time event for those of you above who wished there was more compitition start talking to your friends about next year, don't be discouraged about this years turnout the event will grow via word of mouth, and its up to us to make that happen. A little keyboard smack talking like above is uaslly pretty good at getting folks to gether either you put up or shut up :D

Can anybody say WIND BURN :D

Excellent time, thanks again Craig

BBD

mattymac--wish my NOS was working so I would've taken the top dog on the dyno--we put in the cable lock system to get rid of the vacuum actuated cad thingy--

the front end worked I think--need to see the vid to be sure--hit 85lbs of boost and saw it die to 73 for some reason--track felt like driving on ice for me--I had to steer to keep the front end from being passed by the rearend from about 150' on--just another day sled pulling--things don't always go like you'd like--my comment above "wasted my time" was tongue in cheek--I like pulling, but not when I don't get close--may have to unload the camper and stuff and hang weights finally to get back up there---chris

Doh! Now why didn't I think of that! I could have removed plenty of things to get down below 7500. :-laf

Maybe next year it could be on a Sat. but Sun?

I had a great time even though it lasted a few short hours, but next time i will bring a designated driver :p

You (If you can keep your potty mouth in check)and

Scramblin are cordially invited to speak directly with those at the Event that where in the "winners" circle and the BLUE DURAMAX that was on the ASPHALT with a Silver Dodge in the Rearview.

There is some nice Pics and Vids of the event provided by the Members.

Mr. Mac,

Its a little tough to get next to someone on a two lane road. One lane goes east and the other west. Lots of traffic. He got on it pretty good on a twisty passing lane, definately more ba[[s than me. :-laf My 7800lb work truck doesn't corner to well. It would have been fun to get next to him to see what would happen. Oo. ;) . He definately has a strong truck. I love the rivalry. :D
