Driver's side power window stopped working yesterday, the window came un-glued from the lower channel and the glass fell inside the door (luckily, it didn't break). Looks like it had been fixed once before. The channel is pretty rusty and I would like to replace it when the truck finally goes in for paint this month. Any idea where to get a new one?

Must be in the air, mine did the same thing about 2 weeks ago, I think that an auto glass store can probably get the channel, if not it would be a dealer item. A friend used to work at Autoglass plus and he helped me reattach mine, we used 2 small pieces of rubber at each end to center it in the channel so it wouldn't be crooked and used urethane for the middle section, rolled window up to a 2x4 wrapped with a towel so that any urethane that got pressed out wouldn't glue the window up to the top. My Channel was rusty, he said that the original method which just used a piece of rubber wouldn't work since the channel was rusted, told me if the window ever gets broken I'll need to get a new channel.

Good luck, let us know what a new channel costs you.

I bought new channels for my truck because when I did my recab I noticed they were very rusty. They were quite expensive. Maybe fifty dollars. ANyway, while taking the old glass out I broke it. I ended up taking another out of a junk which was a much better deal and took the channels back to the dealer. Much easier and side glass doesn't usually get beat up and scratched even froma junk yard.

Brian,

I have an 89 here (Torrington, Ct) and you are welcome to come get what you want. I have no idea what condition they are in other than they still work.

Thanks for the replies.

Jay, I might take you up on that but I'll check locally first. P. S. How are you making out with "The Storm" up in CT? It's pretty nasty down here on the Island.

It's snowing mixed in with the rain at 36 deg F... a little slush in the driveway. Not much wind yet... looks like it's starting to blow a little.

Looks like a good day to stay inside.
