window lockout switch
Hi all; I have a 98 24 valve and it doesn't have a window lockout, but my 03 ]Durango does. The right passenger window wouldn't work and I thought it was the switch. It was the window lockout switch on the drivers side. The lockout switch will cut power to all windows but the driver when pushed down. If no green light in the other switch handles, then there is no power to them. This is what I did. Be advised that this is a delicate operation and if you undertake it you may be buying a whole new or used panel if you slip up. I am not responsible. Loosen door panel. disconnect handle arms. remove connectors. Remove switch panel from door panel. Remove screws from sw panel. You have to remove the caps off the window switches, including the lock out. Mirror caps stay on.
the sw covers should be heated like with a normal hair dryer to make them pliable, not too much. Use thin blade putty type knife to pry up one side. Reheat some and pry other side up and off. Don't crack the plastic, use finese, and easy steady pressure. The lock switch cover will probaly fly off.
remove screws on back of panel. To release the plactic lock tabs, use razor blades or similar to keep lock tabs released as you go. The lock switch has 2 tiny lock tabs on the cover. Use some thing tiny to release.
You now have to understand how this switch works(if it is the same as mine).
It has a square rod out the top and it has a strong spring under it. You must hold the case down as you release the 2 lock tabs. The inboard side has a y type spring on a round stud at the bottom. Look very carefully when you release the case how it is on and do this where you can't lose it, like cut out one side of a cardbord box. Sweep the floor if needed first. The outbord side has 2 verticle copper terimals on it. As the switch latches up, it completes the window power circuit and powers the other windows. When down, the 2 coppers are not connected and no power flows. I was not making contact in a steady matter. I bent the 2 verticle copper contacts in SLIGHTLY. so as to make steady contact. The y spring is the latching catch. As the switch moves down, the long end ((tips pointed to inside and long end up) moves up a ramp, settles into a pocket in middle in the latch down position. push down to release, spring end goes out of pocket and is ramped to release position. When reassembling use like door lube wax to hold spring and small screwdriver to hold spring loaded plunger as you ease the cover on and latch. Check operation of switch with ohm meter for proper operation. Be sure. I am going to silicon the switch covers for futurre removal. TO DO THIS, YOU MUST HAVE PATIENCE, DEXTERITY, SCHEMATIC. CONNECTOR PIN NUMBERS ETC. Remember, this was a durango. If you doubt your self, buy the panel, you may do it anyways. Plastic cracks easily. LOTS OF LUCK
