Looks like I need to order a new windshield washer pump. Looks like they have a newer revision for my 2012 3500 diesel. The old part was 68081805AA. New one is 68081805AB. Did they have trouble with the old part? Anyone know what the difference is?

I've had two occasions the pump did not work. The first was when I was away camping, and noticed no fluid coming out and no motor sound. Looking up towards the washer tank, you can see what I thought was the motor and tried to remove the wire harness only to have the whole unit come out in my hand and received a bath with fluid as my reward. Some junk came out the tank. It now appears to be a sensor for low on fluid because it had 2 metal prong sticking out. After I saw the junk that came out and hoped maybe that was the issue, I put everything back together, added fluid and she worked.

Now 6 months later, same issue again. I repeated the last procedure, I was smart this time and did not get a bath. This time I removed the sensor and jumped the plug with a paper clip. Still no pump sound. I removed the pump which is right above the sensor and it was hot. The truck had not been run today, so the pump got hot on its own and made no sound. I hooked up 2 wires to the pump and connected it to the battery. I got sparks from the wires touching the battery, but still the pump motor did not spin. Reversed the wires still nothing. So, I ordered a new pump.

Is there anything else I need to know when replacing this pump? It seems to just sit in its hole in the washer tank. It didn't take much to remove it.

Any tips would help.

Mine was replaced under warranty on my 2011. I "think" the same for my Dad's 2012. You should check if the recall was done for your truck if there was one for the 12's.

Received my new windshield washer pump model 68081805AB. Super easy to install it's located on the driver side between the front bumper and inner fender well. I was able to move the plastic inner fender by grapping it and pulling it towards the engine just enough to get my arms up in there. There were no fasteners to remove which made it even easier. A side from getting covered in washer fluid, you must wear eye googles. There was so much dirt and sand up in there, it's constantly raining down on your face every time you move or touch something.

I filled the tank up and now have a working windshield washer again.
