we need some new tow photos

Damaged goods

I have a 30ft Prowler 5th wheel with the living room "upstairs" over the truck bed. I believe it's a 6 1/2 foot ceiling in the living room, so the camper is pretty tall. Recently pulled to Orlando and the wind off the big trucks sometimes made it difficult to pass. I would pull out to pass and get up beside him and I could feel the drag.

Would a wing on the top of the cab help? What are some sources from wings?

Thanks in advance.

I have a Wingmaster... and pull a 30' 5er. . It does work! I have used mine for the past 2 years and yes I would buy another one. Camping World sells the one that I have. Mine is not the new design. . its the old design. .

I posted this a couple of months ago, I do not know how to link it.

I'v had my truck and TT for about a year now. I have a cab high topper also. The Trailer is a Keystone 21' TailGator (7500 lbs loaded), This unit has a very sturdy frame and axles. When I would pull at around 65 mph, I would notice the whole vehicle would want to move with the wind ( I would use all of the 12 foot lane). The problem was the height and flatness of the front end would not allow the wind to go anywhere. So, I would tow at a lower speed (62 mph). I wanted to tow in OD, but I did not want to lug the engine, so I kept the speed down.

I put a Taylor wing on the topper this past weekend and took a trip to G'ville (my Gators got whipped) I was able to go 65 mph in OD and not have the feeling the rig was floating all over the lane. I have not tried to tweak the wing yet, but I am pleased at the first test. I have the load and sway stuff on all of the time when I pull. The rig seemed to tow better in the curves also.

I will second MPatrick is saying, I have a 30' high profile Fifth wheel, and have had the Taylor Oversize stainless wing for about a year now. I was expecting mileage to increase, but if it has, it has only been slight, 1MPG max. But what it did for handling was well worth the money. The rig handles much better, the "pulling" type feeling that you typically get with a tall trailer (wind resistance) is gone. :D And, though Taylor makes no claims as such, it seems to handle much better in crosswinds as well. All that and a clean trailer front to boot! ;)

It's amazing I get people asking me what it is:confused: so I always just tell them its part of the satellite navigation system:-laf . Make sure you take the wing off if you are not going to be using it for a while, because it will effect your unloaded mileage.

Taylor Wing Website

They guys at Taylor are very freindly and great to deal with. I bought the optional truck mounted attachment so I didn't have to harm the roof, it is extremely well made and sturdy.

I do not have any affiliation with Taylor, just a satisfied, paying customer.

I found the same with mine. Fuel efficiency improvement was minimal but the rig was more stable especially in crosswinds.

Cheers,

Trail Eze II

Anybody use one of these? They are the fiberglass deflectors which lie flat when no in use. How do you like it ? Strengths/ weaknesses ?

Thanks

Never tow with out it. The differnce is crusing at 75 with cruse control instead of 60 with the foot to the floor.

I agree a Taylor wing is well worth the investment I have had mine for about two years now and it works great not much of an increase in mileage but I gained a lot of stability, I cut through a head wind real good now with my 27' high profile 5er, I went to the Taylor Wing factory to pick mine up and they gave me a tour of there plant its not a real big place but it is very clean and very organized I was real impressed with there operation and even more impressed with there product.

24vcummins,

Mixed results with wings but add 100 to 150 additional rear wheel horsepower and you never feel the drag;) :D :D.

I also have one and think it is worth the money. I pulled one time without it, never again. It definately does the job it was intended to do.

Thanks for the input. Looks like it would be a good investment.

Roger rodbolt, the 100 to 150 HP would be nice, but, auto transmission plus VERY VERY limited funds means I can't. It'll happen one day though. :D :D

I think they mentioned something about the 10% fuel mileage increase or your money back although that may be hard to prove but thats not why I bought mine, I bought mine to eliminate the drag but it does stand to reason that if you cut down on the drag than you must be increasing your fuel mileage! Taylor wings also manufacture wings for semi trucks as well as the sprint race cars when I visited there plant in Rancho Cordova California they were geared up for building the sprint car wings it was an interesting operation that they had going the people were very friendly and seemed to be quite knowledgeable about what they were doing, I also purchased the mounting rack so as I would not have to drill holes in my roof, I installed mine all by my lonesome but I would recommend at least two people to install it one person to steady it and one person to put the bolts on, I just picked up my 2003 1 ton dually quad cab and will take the wing off my old truck this weekend and install it on the new truck.

good luck

Bob.

Here's my Taylor on my 96. I would HIGHLY reccomend using the rack type mount and not installing it permanent on the roof.
