wire from water/fuel separator

There is a wire that comes from the bottom of the bleeder valve in my water/fuel separator that leads to the wiring harness through a clip. Where does this wire lead, and/or what is its purpose?

That is for the water in fuel sensor that screws into the bottom of the fuel filter.

mine broke off the pig tail last wknd when i did an oil/fuel filter change..... didnt affect the WIF sensor at all... . soon after i washed my engine off and sure enough that stupid light came on.

Thanks for your replies. I broke the wire when I was doing an oil/filter change, too. Trying to decide if it was important enough to replace right away.
