Wiring Harness Woes

Good morning, I'm DRK BUTTR from Bloomington, Indiana, and I'm a newbie to the forum. I have a 2008 2500 Laramie 6.7l megacab 4x4 w/68RFE automatic that I bought from an auction(it's ok to laugh or no..not the auction). It was vandalized slightly--radio, 3 of 4 speakers, DPF & CAT?(egr and cooler had been deleted), and the transfer case had exploded. So, the harness that feeds the rear lights was severed just ahead of the front side of then TC which is the missing side, the shift motor connector harness is just a strand of wires, and I have had no luck finding a replacement harness, nor any idea where the rear harness connects to the front of the harness. I've been scouring through the Chrysler repair manual, and have found some answers, but not the ones I need. HELP!!

Welcome to the forumn.

I have no experience with the 6.7 3rd gen trucks, but do know that the service manual for the 5.9L trucks includes the wiring schematics. I would try to get a copy of the 2008 RAM service manual and electrical diagrams (if separate) and start there, sounds like you'll need one anyway.

BTW if you cannot find one online for free.. GENO"S Garage it the first best place to start for your truck parts.. only if they dont have it do I shop elsewhere.

Be sure to call and confirm if it covers the 6.7 as 07 was a change over mid year.

Thanks for the responses to my post. I do have the 2008 oem ram manual it just doesn't show where the rear harness connects in the front of the truck. I was hoping for someone with a matching truck who would be willing to take some pictures of the left side of the rear harness or compatible years and where it is routed to the front of the truck , so I would have an idea which way to go. I already know that I'm going to have to splice in some wires... I just need to know where abouts so I can find the right connector for the connection.

The service manual should show "C" connections for the various harnesses.. And they should be numbered. So if you take those "C" numbers and use the link that I posted above you should be able to see what they at least look like and possible part numbers....maybe that will help....

Welcome @DRK BUTTR! Sorry to see what you're dealing with. You should be able to trace wiring harness to connection points. I would get the pins need for the connection points, a good and proper crimper for said pins, and make a new harness between the two points. You can get some of the expandable braid off of Ebay to hold harness together. That would be the best thing to remake the harness. Hopefully someone may chime in with the pictures you need. You could just do the hack and splice to get things going while you build new harness. Even the best splice in can give you an issue! Wish I was within a couple hour drive to be able to give you a hand with the wiring. I've got the crimpers and tracing tools for those repairs. Have had to many wiring issues on vehicles, trailers and tractors! Good luck!

Thanks for the welcome Topzide! Took you and mwilsons' advice, crawled back under the truck, dropped the remnants of the transfer case and driveshaft, and searched until I found the front female connector--C135. Now I have to find a 20 wire male end to splice the rest of the harness to. Saw one on ebay with about 6 other connector that won't be going into service in the near future. Also found out why the transfer case exploded--the put those little warnings about not using impact wrenches on the fill and drain plugs for a reason.

@DRK BUTTR, Check these guys out, https://www.eficonnection.com/, I know they say EFI connectors, but might have one that works for you. If you can, take a pic of terminal needed. While cruising the web, might come across it. Those warnings do have a purpose! Lots of stress put on an aluminum case with pipe thread taper pushing its way tight!

Sounds like a cool truck, maybe check your local yards out for some donor harnesses.

We have a great local one by us.

They have lots of leads and an in person visit goes a long way at times. To go over your project. They are all super busy so just be patient with yours. Their bread and butter is turning wrecks into $, so it's fast moving at times. No Cummins models sit for very long from what I have seen.

Worth a shot to look in your local area for a place like this.

Good afternoon all, thanks Topzide & Timd32--I'll check those links out. Been trying to get the nose of the TC off the transmission--I think some of the studs got bent when it exploded--it's been a booger getting it to come off...1/4" inch at a time makes for hard work. wishing I'd bought a power spreader when I had the chance years ago. Once I got the TC out I found that it was cracked on the rear case, and my initial plan was to replace the front cover, add in new guts, and have a new TC going forward. Now it definitely has turned into a full-rebuild. So has anybody tore down a TC and rebuilt it.? Any pointers would be helpful. I currently shopping around for the necessary parts needed.

Probably could find the whole thing and just drop it in for less cost and effort than finding all the parts to rebuild / replace.

Same here, get a replacement. Plenty of them around.
Rockauto.com has the best price for a Reman from what I know.
But also scrapyards. 273s are all over the place in Craigslist too.
