I found the explanation of the window fix by Great White, on Fritz's page. However I am "electronically challenged" and do not understand what was done. If anyone would be willing to help me I would appreciate it. I want my windows to work when I turn the key to the acc position. Thanks.

Here's a different way than the page says but it will still work.

Parts:

(1) Fuse extender... . you can get these at any parts store for about $10. 00.

(2) 4" 16 gauge wires

(1) male wire spade

(2) female wire spades

(1) 20 amp fuse

1. Attach one end of the 16 ga. wire to the end of the wire from the "Extend-a-fuse" and put a female spade connector on the other end.

2. Put a male spade connector on one end of the remaining wire and a female spade on the other.

3. Pull the silver circuit breaker for power windows from the fuse box and attach the wire from the "extend-a-fuse" to the top spade of the circuit breaker, and the female spade from the other wire to the bottom spade. ("top" and "bottom" are determined by the way the circuit breaker came out of the fuse box)

4. With the wire that is on the bottom spade of the circuit breaker, put the male end into the bottom hole from where the power windows circuit breaker came from.

5. Put the 20 amp fuse into the extend-a-fuse and plug the extend-a-fuse into the #16 "spare" fuse receptacle.

6. Tuck the circuit breaker under the fuse box and put the cover back on.

That should be it. The # 16 "Spare" is powered on with the key on the "ON" and "ACC" position. So your windows will work with the key in the "ON" or "ACC" position.

Window problem?

A question from a window ignoramus (me):

What is the window problem that requires the window fix?

Expiring minds think they want to know

Thx.

The nature of the fix is in the first post: "I want my windows to work when I turn the key to the acc position. "

I hate power windows, but if I had to have them I'd want them to work without the key. (I might start to like them then)

The window fix is really a couple of different approaches to the fact that the key has to be in the run position for the power windows to operate. One method is just hook the power windows to the power seat curcuit breaker--windows will operate at all times. Rick White wired a relay into his that turns on the power windows when he turns on the dome light switch. I did almost the same thing but I used toe left door switch to trigger the relay. My windows operate normally with the door closed. If I open the drivers door I can roll up the windows after I put the key in my pocket.

Whoever had my truck before me wired the window to work with no key. They jumped some wires on the fuse block. I would have to look to describe it, but just want to say :D :D :D Why can't the factory do that? Never mind, don't answer:rolleyes:

A little girl was killed here last week by getting her head caught in a power window. It strangled her. It must have been one that was wired to run without the key. :(

I made 4 short jumper wires and switched the power seat and power window leads in the panel on the side of the dash. Now the seats don't move when I lean into the truck to get something off the seat and the windows work all the time.

Don't be so sure about the little girl's fate - it's illegal in nearly every state to leave a child alone in a running vehicle, yet people are killed every year when a kid shifts a vehicle into gear. Parental responsibility!
