My neighbor just purchased a new PS 2wd. I was searching soem stuff for him at the Ford Site http://www.ford-diesel.com/. Do a search in their Forum - under Engine Drivetrain Superduty - use term: hydroboost problem. This looks scary...

I didn't do the search but I am sure I can guess. You hammer the whoa pedal and it goes to the floor and then comes back?? I used to drive a 97 SD ford that wieghed about 15K all the time. If you had to panic stop the pedal would go ALL THE WAY DOWN then after you had said your goodbyes it would push back up and the truck would start stopping. I bet it added at least 20-40ft to a panic stop. Ford people didn't seem to think there was a problem.

Near as I can tell here's the short version:

If you step on the brake it locks (limits) the steering to between 1/8 to 1/2 turn either direction because of this hydroboost thingy. Most noticable complainers have been boatramp drivers and when trying to manuver at slow speeds.

Sound right???

It's pretty darn bad when companies start trying to 'BUY BACK' trucks because of this problem! Wow.

I lived it!

My 99 POSD had the same problem. Hit the brakes hard during a panic stop and no power steering. Of course the dealer couldn't duplicate the problem so in their words"nothing we can do for you about it". God help the Ford drivers.
