ok my 2017 3500 srw non rear air is in need of new shocks. At 133k probably past time. On my 01 I had run bilstiens and thought they were fine no issues. Then I put on a carli kit with the 2.5 shocks and springs. Which showed me what “good” shocks can do. I know they were valved for that specific suspension and all that so comparing them to bilstiens is apple to oranges. However I sure would like some good shocks and am willing to pay for them just not sure I am willing to pay for a whole new suspension to get them.
Does anyone know if king or fox or any other brand for that matter makes a good shock valved better for the own suspension than the run of the mill bilstiens or whatever brand for these trucks?

The Bilstein 5160's look interesting. For a little over a grand you'll get new front leveling springs and 2" remote reservoir shocks all around. Not an endorsement from me, I have no experience with this specific kit but it seems like a good budget minded option.

The King 2.5's will set you back almost a grand just for the two front shocks.

If you have a Carli Suspension, or any other brand for that matter, you do not have to buy a new suspension to get shocks. Call up a vendor that sells Carli and order some shocks, either Fox or King. I'd highly recommend CJC Offroad in So Cal as a vendor, www.cjcoffroad.com or 844-252-6373

my 01 had a carli suspension on it that used the king 2.5 shocks, my 2017 does not. it is all oem just trying to find some good shocks like the king or other brands that are valved for the oem suspension
