kids these days

About the draft: The quality of troops we get now is as low as ever (if not lower), and the purpose of the military is NOT to transform the riff-raff punks into useful adults. A lot of parents who sucked as parents believe that it is the military's job to make something out of their kids. What's the parents' job?

We in the military need kids that have the potential to be professionals, and the willingness to learn. Very few kids these days are humble or mature enough to be teachable. The USMC has basic training down pat (Crucible included)-- I wish the other branches (like mine) weren't so dominated by political correctness. Too many politicians sticking their heads in where they shouldn't be. So much for the draft.

As for kids in general, I often feel like a really old man, even though I am only 27. Why? Because I really feel that kids have become a LOT worse just in the 10 years since I was in high school. There are a lot of reasons: broken homes (divorce), teen pregnancy, drugs, rap music, other pop music, internet porn, schools that suck, so on and so forth.

The problem with kids these days is parents these days. Lots of these parents now are trying to recapture their youth, so instead of growing up and parenting their kids, the keep hitting the clubs, and bringing home a new lover every few weeks. They don't embrace parenting-- they see it as a nuisance that interferes with their right to "have fun" (i. e. , drink and have sex). They claim they love their kids, but few are willing to totally abandon their wild ways to be a good parent. So few kids have TRUE siblings-- ones that aren't half- or step- brothers or sisters.

If Planned Parenthood and the feminists get their way, family will soon be thought of as an outdated construct rather than the FUNDAMENTAL unit of society.

The problem with schools these days is that they are controlled by bureaucrats who care less about education than indoctrination. Kids aren't taught to master reading; they're taught to masturbate. Sex ed has replaced writing, math, and history. They teach a science that presents the THEORY of evolution as fact (anything to disallow the possibility God exists). Because IF God exists, then we might have to answer for our actions (violence, abortion, murder, sexual promiscuity, etc. )

Why is it that the solution to teen pregnancy is MORE sex education, when teen pregnancy has gotten WORSE since it started? That's like telling an AIDS patient that he can get better by getting injected with more HIV virus. Stupid? Yes-- welcome to the liberal mind.

Rant over, nomex installed and switched on:)

A number of years ago my brother and I were having dinner in an Italian restraunt in San Clemente, just off of Camp Pendleton. There were 2 young Marines in there with way to many dead bottles on the table, making quite a scene. Any one that gave them a bad look or said something had one of the guys in their face. After about 45 minutes of this an old man easily in his eighties got up, walked over, and bent down and whispered something in the loudest ones ear. He then went back and sat down. I never found out what he said, but the two Marines sat there like 5 year olds that had just been spanked. From then on it was a nice night.

This is an interesting thread...

I'm 22, working on finishing college. My girlfriend (who has lived with me for the last 3 years) works at Applebee's here on campus. We were both raised by parents that got their point accross... one way or another. We were taught to be polite and respectful (I was taught never to throw the first punch, but to finish whatever the jacka$$ started). Anyway, she has been complaining quite a bit lately about how rude people in general have been at the Applebee's. I get alot of wierd looks around campus when I open/hold the door for a lady, or say 'please' or 'thank you'.

On the military issue, I guess I feel like if they need me, they will certainly let me know. And I would be happy to help. I just didn't want to make a career out of it, wasn't for me.

My main beef anymore is guys my age that think they can treat women like I TRIED TO BY-PASS THE CUSSING FILTER and get away with it. NOTHING will make me get in your face faster than you mistreating ANY female in my presence. It just don't fly.

hell just look at the "music" video's... what are they saying. . it's is 100% normal to have disrespect for any authority or older person, and it goes down hill from there.....

we have had a culture revolution with each gereration. . but this time [last 10/15 years] our whole social structure has gone down hill big time... . mob mentality and total disrespect

i think the answer to most all of this is FAMILY. not just parents but grandparents too. I grew up in a middle sized city and wouldnt do half the stuff these kids today do because i didnt want to embarass my FAMILY my grandfather and uncle were both business men in the comunity and i would never do something that they would have to explain.

Sorry guys, I'm late to the thread as usual but can't help commenting.

I'm retired U. S. Navy and retired from a second career. Didn't want to vegetate at the young age of 56 so I took a job last year helping the local public school as a substitute bus driver. Keeps me busy and puts some spending money in the pocket.

Compared to when I grew up, these young people are way out of control and everybody is afraid to enforce discipline on them. You can't believe what comes out of the mouths of these little darlings. But you can't take a chance on damaging self esteem by disciplining them. One of my friends had a parent come into the school office yesterday threatening a lawsuit if my bud dared to touch his brat on the bus again (by touching the kid on the shoulder to get his attention in an effort to have him slide over in the seat). Of course the educators (?) cave in such instances.

I'm way disappointed in the state of things.

Thanks for the chance to vent. MikeH

sdalton.

Congratulations for sticking up for what you believe in. You made an impression on your son, your first priority. Also, you

never know how much the girls will think about what you said later when they are alone.
