Although it's not what I'd call my dream car, my favorite car is, and always has been, the '68 Dodge Dart GTS 340 I purchased new for $3300 in '68 and still own. Don't drive it much anymore, and it needs some restoration, but when it was near new it would pull the 6000 rpm redline in high gear with a 3. 23 rear end and do the qarter mile in the low 14s. Not a Hemi, 440-6 pack or a 454 Chevelle in performace but a well rounded high performance package. Handling was good for its day. Had a crazy friend with a XKE Jag who could nver beat my Dart in any kind of road race we chose. Brakes were good, but not like todays cars. It's still a real fun car to drive and ride in, and everyone who does, ALWAYS has a smile on their face.
Brian, since nobody has asked, how do the Jap high performance cars do on the race track? At the Vegas dyno days last Nov. , I asked the dyno owner what was the highest power reading he'd seen on his dyno. It turned out to be a street driven twin turbo Toyota Supra with almost 900 rear wheel hp. The list of cars he'd dynoed also included several Winston Cup race cars.
