Run a Carfax/ Favor...

Toyota in NASCAR?

Although it's not what I'd call my dream car, my favorite car is, and always has been, the '68 Dodge Dart GTS 340 I purchased new for $3300 in '68 and still own. Don't drive it much anymore, and it needs some restoration, but when it was near new it would pull the 6000 rpm redline in high gear with a 3. 23 rear end and do the qarter mile in the low 14s. Not a Hemi, 440-6 pack or a 454 Chevelle in performace but a well rounded high performance package. Handling was good for its day. Had a crazy friend with a XKE Jag who could nver beat my Dart in any kind of road race we chose. Brakes were good, but not like todays cars. It's still a real fun car to drive and ride in, and everyone who does, ALWAYS has a smile on their face.

Brian, since nobody has asked, how do the Jap high performance cars do on the race track? At the Vegas dyno days last Nov. , I asked the dyno owner what was the highest power reading he'd seen on his dyno. It turned out to be a street driven twin turbo Toyota Supra with almost 900 rear wheel hp. The list of cars he'd dynoed also included several Winston Cup race cars.

Bart, my experience with the Jap stuff is... well, less than wonderful. Typically, they are way overweight with brakes that are adequate... at best. A Mitsu 300GT for example has over 300hp and AWD, but it weighs 4200lbs dry! The Integras make a nice race car... tons of power, nice balance huge revs and reliable... some buddies of mine won the Motorola Cup Championship in one last year over BMW, Ford, et al. Drove a Subaru Impreza Rally car a few months back... that was pretty cool... far from stock in any respect, though. I know that in import drags, the big power comes from the Mitsubishi 4-bangers with HUGE turbos... over 1000hp! Toyota has a couple Lexus 400 racers running under the TRD banner ... . they fly! But my personal experience with Jap stuff is kinda limited as most folks who are serious enough to attend a serious drivers school aint Jap-car types. Have driven a dozen NSX's... those are kinda fun... underpowered, but really nice to drive.

Maybe I am a little red around the neck but my dream car would be a second Cummins and build it with no regard for long term reliability or cost. It would be big, loud, and very powerfull an I would mud bog, sled pull, or drag race it every weekend and when it broke I would put it on the trailer and tow it home with my other one.

OF course I could list quite a few ,but will just list the one that is probabbly truest to my heart every since I started looking at cars.

Not the best handling, not the fastest either, but just one nasty ride. 1969 chevy camaro ZL1(all aluminum big block 427) only rated around 450 hp, but true hp was probably closer to 550... . only about 69 of those every made. There are no true production numbers on them, but most believe it to be about 69.

5Trees, What about Studabakers? Your photos are going out tomorrow. As for me, favorite cars I did own were 70 `cuda 340 & 79 Trans Am. Would like to nasty up the Olds in the T/A. It was a pig, but drove nice. As far as Dream cars, ANY Original or restored Factory Hemi car. 70 cuda at top of list.

I like front engine water cooled porsches mainly the 924. I also like the delorean. I own a 924 and am thinking of getting a 924 turbo.

But since we are talking dream cars ones I'll never own.

Dream Car... ... ... ... .....

1970 Hemi Cuda Convertible, 4 speed.

There were only like 14 made and I want one of them ... ... ... ..... if it were only possible:)

If I could just hit those 6 lucky numbers:D

'68 Shelby GT500KR and a '57 Chevy Bel Air hardtop with a blown 502, tubbed, and slammed on the ground. That would do it for me.

I should probably finish the two projects I already have before getting another "dream car", My 68 GTO that I have had since I was 14, and a 73 Firebird Formula that I picked up a few years ago for a price that was too good to pass up. I wouldn't mind a 64 or 65 GTO to add to the collection. I love a good sounding V8 with a decent lope at idle but the little Japanese and German sports cars really handle and stop nice. I have driven a Nissan 300ZX twin turbo that pulled real well.

Last summer a friend bought a 2002 911 Carrera. The conversation went like this:

Friend: Do you want to see my new car? Me:Sure! Friend after showing to me: Do you want to take it for a drive? Me:Absolutely!

He threw me the keys and I took it easy around town on the way to the highway. He kept telling me to STEP ON IT but I was getting used to the car. When we got on the highway I nailed it and didn't let up till 130. I saw him grab the door handle when I topped out 4th going for 5th!:D

If I had the $$ I would probably go with the latest Z06 Vette. I have not had an opportunity to drive one but my buddy had one for a week and said it was the fastest thing he has ever driven. He owned a '69 SS396 and a '64 Chevelle with a 427 so I think he knows what fast is.

Hemi Fish!!!!!

5trees, 6pack, Hey! How bout a clone? We could pool our cash & build one for "group therapy"! Gotta have the stroker 528 with either Lenco or maybe 618!:D :--)

2003 Dodge Ram 2500 SLT Cummins H. O. 48re Patriot blue/ Dark slate grey. Fully loaded - leather seats.

I own it and i swear it is my dream.

Hey, that thing A`INT got a HEMI in it!:D Still slick, tho. On my cuda, I used the AAR fender lips and the T/A Challenger front half width spoilers. It was Tahitian Gold w/black vinyl top, interior, and side stripes. Miss it . Dk
