Hello TDR Brothers. There is a small dodge dealer in southeast Alaska they have a Ram 3500 dually 4X4 on the lot it is a Larime limited edition looks to be loaded. Has the Asin trans and 3.73 rear end. Of course the sticker is 73k for the truck. What do you think would be the real price for a 2+year old brand new truck with only 10 miles. Please share your wisdom

thank you!

Yeah. They always have "rebates" on the older models. Some rebates might expire, but the savings shouldn't. I got effectibely $10,000 off of a $50,0000 2013 truck as the new models (2014's ) were being delivered. The higher trims have more "mark-up". Offer $50k and stand firm. Don't act like you really want it. Just say, you're not sure a new truck is any better than a low mileage used truck.

I wonder about the condition and age of the def. If it was an early 15 build the def may be weak or expired. What is the story as to why they still have this truck? Is the warranty still good? For example are they following the manufacturer recommendation to change it every 15,000 miles or six months. I would need something in writing saying it still has a warranty but that may just be overcautious.

I guess its hasn't sold because the dealership is proud of their trucks? That's a complete ripoff IMO 73K on a two year old truck that has just been sitting there....I agree with the others, no more than 50K... I hope they come down on the price for you.

73K is the original "LIST" price.

The factory warranty does not start till the date of sale. The service would be the delaers responsibility(def age)The dealers are not supposed to fill the def till delivery

That mite be a reasonable price for your location in Alaska I know y'all pay more up there for everything sit down with the Sales Dept and haggle your best price it's the game they play

You can get 20% off every day without trying too hard on ANY new truck, including the one that was produced yesterday.

So, I would expect a significantly larger discount on a 2015 just because I would....BUT let me throw out another perspective:

If you're a high mileage driver, or someone who keeps a truck a long time (10+ years) it really won't matter. If you trade every 3-5 years, the two-year-old new truck will beat you down in resale value. But if you keep the truck for 10+ years, or you're a high mileage driver/operator (say a hot-shotter or a full-time RV type) the "Low mileage for a 5 year old truck" think can play in your favor.

I try to balance it. I have no qualms whatsoever about buying last-year's model, in fact I seek them out -- but I'm a high mileage driver (when I drive at all) and I generally keep trucks until they start falling apart...over my life I've averaged a new truck every 12 years....and by buying last-year's model when I do, I've come out OK on the mileage vs. years thing, and on a 10+ year old truck, one MY difference in depreciation is less than the mileage hit.

But unless you fall into that special niche that can benefit from the model-year gap, I wouldn't touch that truck for less than a 35% discount from MSRP, factoring in the normal 20% and basic model-year depreciation.

As stated above, warranty and service would be the same whether you buy the 2015 or a 2017....

You're going to pay more in Alaska due to the cost of shipping and other costs. Having said that, Dennis Dillon Ram in Idaho doesn't have a truck on their lot for over $60K, including 2017 Laramie Dually. You could fly down, pick it up and drive it home or have it shipped and still be money way ahead if your dealer doesn't come down. With the truck on their lot for that long they should be willing to do 25% off MSRP.

Try to find a sales man that is willing to come down. The young ones try to get sticker(that's how they were trained). If they start playing "I have to get the sales manager game, when they come back tell them you have to go work.... . Then go back in a few days and start talking them down again. Start lower then what you want to actually want to pay. When he/they get close or what you want to pay go for it.

Before I even began negotiating with them on price, I'd drive that sucka hard and make sure it doesn't vibrate (but good luck discerning between that and the flat spots on the tires). And then make sure everything else works. Also, don't forget that it's two years old and it has still lost value despite "only having 10 miles". You can call it new if you want, but that truck ain't new. By a long shot.

Even new vehicle loses value as soon as it's driven off the lot this one will lose that plus it's 2 years old already so it's losing even more value
Do the math

I bought a Left over Corvette in 2013. What I did was put a 2012 into KBB as a low mileage used car. I think I put 1,000 miles. Sticker was $74K. KBB said $54K so that's what I offered. We settled on $54.5 after I argued that is what it's value really was. KBB goes by Zip-Code so you should get a good idea of what it's worth in your area..
