AFE rep said the BHAF was a piece of...

Swepco Gear Oil

Well, now I'm leaning towards an OilGuard that was offered to me...

They have a 2u rating @ 96-97%. Sounded like I could run them 20k per OCI, so that was a plus... sorta similar to what I'm doing now...

Pricey little beggers - but they look interesting, sure will be interested in seeing an oil analysis from one! :)

I can get the OilGuard (the model 20) for $100 and some filters at cost... if I can get it for $150, I might really consider it...

If I was starting from scratch, I might go for that long element job - should give great element life and acceptable filtration...

Well, the OilGuard fell through... it was an L10, which is the little one (about the size of a Frantz) and they recommend the L20 for the Cummins...

I have one more option, someone has a gulf coast they offered... I am waiting for a price, but most likely too much for my budget.

So I'll wait... if the Gulf Coast falls through, I'll be ordering the LuberFiner next week. I guess I'll be the guinea pig.

If you want a LARGER filter that will fit on the Amsoil unit, just order the Eabp-110 element.

Nothing against you Wayne, I truely believe Amsoil has some good products, but I have ORDERED EaBP110s and received EaBP100s (what I am currently running). I have had nothing but troubles ordering from Amsoil, that is the reason I am moving away from all of Amsoil's products that I currently use.

If I buy the Luber-Finer filter, I can get them locally, no extraneous shipping, no worrying if I am going to get the right part in the mail; simply stop by and pick it up.

Either way, whether I have a replacement bypass or not, my BMK-11 mount and a new EaBP100 will be up for grabs within a couple weeks.

OK, the restriction in the Luber-Finer is 0. 101" which is significantly bigger than a 1/16" @ 0. 0625 or 3/32" @ 0. 0938, but smaller than 1/8" @ 0. 125 and 7/64" @ 0. 109...

Looks like I'll need to "modify" the restriction for my smaller flow application. I am currently running 1/16"... which for the record is not the normal size of the Amsoil orifice (I modified this one too). I will probably run a 1/16" orifice as that is about as small as I can chuck in a drill... maybe I'll take it to a machineshop and have a slightly smaller one drilled this time?? Being the Amsoil is rate a quart per minute at 55psi (or something like that) and I got a quart per minute at 25psi, that should add more residence time in the filter...

Any hobby shop should carry really small drill bits with the specialized chuck to use them in your drill press. They come in numbered sizes so you will have to do the conversion.

Yeah, I forgot about those... the "wire size" bits...

I still have a chance at a Gulf Coast, so we'll see what that has in store...

Well it looks like I'll be ordering the Luber-Finer Bypass next week... at least the mount and a single filter. I'll then "stock up" on filters over the next couple months (figure one for every 50k miles or so)... unless the place I get them from will do a discount on more than one...

I'll swap the bypasses out and change oil (CJ-4 again) and run a UOA after 10k... see what it looks like compared to the Amsoil EaBP and CJ-4...

I'll take some pictures when I get it...

Sounds great! I, for one, will be looking forward to seeing the results! :)

Gary, I was given a Frantz bypass filter by a friend. His father passed away and he was the type that had one of everything in his garage so I received the filter. I did nothing with it until I started to read your tread recently and decided to check this filter out. Turns out the thing was born back in 1983 but all the basic parts were there so I got off my duff and installed it yesterday per your instructions. The install went very well. Thanks for the help. Sounds like we have some things in common. I am retired and old with a heated garage and like to tinker.

GOOD for you! Hope it works out for you as well as it has for me - I have yet to see ANY commonly available bypass filter that will test out as well in analysis for filtering ability as the Frantz does - well worth the slight additional maintenance in my book!

Well, I had a line on another OilGuard, and again, it fell through. I'm going to take this as a sign NOT to run an OilGuard... :-laf

I ordered some more 1/4" line to plumb it together... I'll order the LuberFiner tomorrow morning. I found my lines were weather checked... not that I am too awful worried about them failing, but I intended to reroute the lines better anyway...

I'll post more as it develops... I'm going to take a pictures of this filter with my last EaBP100 for comparison... just to give a size comparison. This Luberfiner is almost a full inch larger in diameter and 12 inches long.

I just got back my UOA from Blackstone via eMail. Looks like the Frantz (2 in parallel) is working well. I tested them by going the full 7400 miles w/o a change. I needed no make-up oil, and the 2 number ISO code is 14/11. As soon as the hardcopy comes (particle count included) I will post on BITOG.

p. s. Oil is Rotella T - CJ-4 15w40, TBN is still a healthy 8. 7!

Tom

Steve, what are these "deals" that keep falling thru - are they on Ebay?

No, I have had guys ping me on other boards with "I have an OilGuard", only to have them come through later that its just the little guy. No biggie, just was holding out incase it might be a good deal.

That 14/11 sounds promising - I got a 13/10, but that was with my single and 1 filter element change in 5000 miles...

By all means, post here too - especially that particle count!

No problem Gary... The letter should be getting here soon. This is my 1st particle count, and the 1st time I went over 2500 mi on a roll of TP. I will see how well they filtered, and if I will have to go back to a lower interval or not. :)
