Hi everyone,

Was wondering what everyone is running or recommending for tire air pressure on 285/75/16 Toyo Open Country M/T on 16" stock alloy wheels for best mileage and tire wear ???

All my driving is unloaded highway miles.

Any and all input would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks,

Randall

Are those 10 ply E rated tires? I run Toyo M55s and run 50 psi in the back and 55 in the front. I seem to get pretty even wear.

Yeah, They are "E" Rated and 10 Ply. I found some other threads about tire pressure and they are all over the place..... 45 psi to maxxed at 80 psi. I think I'll try what you're doing... . looking for even tire wear.

Woodenhead, how do you like the M55's. I am thinking about putting those on, rather than the BFG AT's that the tire guy is recomending, I have not heard much good about the BFG's.

I run 80 PSI when towing the 5er, but like about 50 PSI in the off-season when traveling unloaded... TOYO M55 E rated...

My last set were BFGs and I liked them for traction and they were quiet but they wore out fast. I didn't make 30k miles on them and they were done.

I like the M55s, they wear like iron and have great snow and mud traction. I have 50,000miles on them now and will replace them with another set before the snow flies. They do sing a little on the road but it doesn't bother me. They are not a cheap tire, I run 285-75 E rated and they're close to $250 a tire from my local LesSchwab. Since they are a pretty hard compound some say they are not the best tire on ice, siping will help that. I don't exactly go around driving on skating rinks and have never had any issues driving on ice. Driving in slippery conditions is 99% driver anyway :).

Do a search for tires, crack a cold one and start reading. You'll find for every tire out there someone either loves it or hates it so it's tough to make a choice sometimes. I'm on my 4th set of tires in 6 years and this will be the first tire I buy a second time.

Hope that helps.

I know what you are saying about opinions. He is steering me towards Hankook M/T's, the BFG's or the Michlins. I want to stay with an A/T, I guess I will have him look into the price for some M-55's. They can't be to bad for this truck and the power it has since a lot of people on here seem to like them.

Do any of you running the M55's have an issue with not being able to get them balanced. My local Les Schwab guy told me that they're not the best commuter tire, better suited for the farm.

I just changed, wore out a set of m55s they balanced well, and then with the addition of the centramatics they stayed well balanced and wore even on all four. I just went with 285 75 16 in the good year silent armor e rated. They were on special at the tire rack, 177. 00 each. They are quiet on the road, the m55s did sing.
