Need advice!

Yellowstone

Here is my truck and trailer. Pulls great, need to put it on the scales fully loaded, but it pulls excellent and I couldn't ask for a better truck to pull it. The Cummins makes my trailer seem alot smaller. Buddies with Fords have to play alot of catch up in order to keep up with me in the hills. Scotty[/QUOTE

What a great rig, Lucky Man!:-laf

I wish this trailer was mine! I borrowed from a co-worker who is a roofer, to bring scrap to the boneyard. Gross 12,700, tare 11,040. got around 11-13 mpg over a 100 mile or so tow. Extremely pleased

My 05 with an 18' plus beaver tail PJ trailer with My Uncles skidsteer that I use and store and maintain for him. :p

You know, I never looked at the first post in this thread until today. It was started exactly 4 days before I took delivery of my truck. Cool!

I am registered in NH because that is where I semi-retired from but My actual home is N Clarendon, VT. I have been going all around the country with this setup as I now work as a Contract Telephone Engineer. Presently working in Champaign, IL I also pull RV's out of Wakarusa, IN at least once a month.

The 2 trailers weigh about 21,000 lbs together. Get about 9 mpg pulling them. In fact most any heavy trailer gets about 9.

So you are 29-30,000lbs with the truck?

It's a damn nice setup.

What states other then Oregon don't allow towing doubles, do you know? I saw a lot of them in Utah a couple weeks ago when I was there.

Pulling Double

I have towed this setup pretty much all over from UT to New England and south including NV & AZ to FL. I hear GA gives this setup a hard time, but I have gone through GA many times and have not had any problem. The New York State Thruway would not let me (and my son-same setup) on saying we were illegal. What a farse that is, they allow semi's to pull full length triples!

I have tried to find legal descriptions of what can be pulled, but not much luck. I believe TX specifies it, and CA says you can pull double but only specifies a boat as the second trailer. And I have actually asked State Troopers who could not give me a specific answer.

Anyway, I would like to get rid of this setup now and get a garage unit if possible. I have been full timing for the last 13 years, that's why I like the big trailer. But I hope to fully retire soon and then a garage unit would fit the bill for weekend and vacation traveling.

Alaska to New Mexico

19,300# at the scales, 4,600 miles (detour to Minnesota in there), 11. 5MPG average (hand calculated).
