Just installed my EZ this week. That little black box makes one heck of a difference. It's like having an entirely different truck now.

I would like to take advantage of higher boost, but need to find a simple and reversable way to disable the wastegate of my HY35 (still have lots of warranty left). I hope to be able to do this tomorrow (Saturday).

At some point I'll probably replace it with the HX35 whenever I find a good used one (anybody have one that they would like to unload - cheap??).

All input appreciated! Thanks.

Steve

Mine's a 99 but I just took the fitting
out of the turbo & put a plug in its place.
Don't know if this will work with yours.

I used a 3 1/2 x 3/4 spring. It is used for holding the shoes in drum style brakes. Bend one end into a V shaped hook. Hook this end onto the arm that comes out of the turbo. Use a piece of wire and go around the turbo where the wastegate head attaches. Make sure you don't go over any lines or hoses. hook the other end of the spring to the wire. Twist the wire to apply more tension to the wastegate. You have need to use a some kind of a pry-bar on the spring so you can get enough tension on it. I have been running this setup for a while now and its working good. I get 26psi with the EZ and no muffler. The combination drop my egt down a lot.
I also put this setup on KatDiesel's truck and work well for him. 27psi if I remember correctly. Could have gotten more but he was going to get a new turbo soon anyway. I have a picture of the spring if you want to see how I bent it.

It is pretty easy to make the stock actuator into an adjustable one. All you have to do is grind off the part where it is peened. Then you will be able to adjust it. Doa search on the topic, I posted the process a month or two ago. I have done several this way, and it works great. No springs or brackets needed.

What I did was take the clip off the wastegate actuator arm and slide the arm off. Then take some mechanics wre or better yet some bailing wire. Make a small loop and put it on the wastegate, then run the other end through a hole on your altenator bracket, and pull it as tight as possible and tie it off. Worked very well for me till I could replace my turbo with an HX40.

The easist way is to take a 22 shell, sand it a little slip it in the hard line side of the turbo and re-connect. Completely stealth and easy to remove!!!!

Is it possible to get more boost out of a stock truck by doing this. Also when I got mine flashed last night the tech said something about the computer shutting down stuff if the pressure is above 20 psi??? how do you counter that? He just got back from minneapolis and said they pretty much killed the idea of a mercedes diesel for dodge in the future.

I would have to vote for the 22 shell. I think I was the one who did this first and I have had it in for about 5000 miles with no problems. I can now get 40 psi out of that punny little turbo. Happy Bombing.

NDRamrod - you have have some sort of boost module for the MAP sensor on the engine. This fools the computer into only ever seeing 20 lbs of pressure. I have the EZ edge and a regular Power Edge, both of these have a boost module built in. There are others out there that work too. .

Hey guys! Thanks for all of the replies. Greatly appreciated! I think I'm gonna try the 22 shell method first - seems the easiest. I assume the shell is a press fit into the hole. How tight should it be? I would hate to have it work its way out and get sucked into the turbo #ad
, but I would like to be able to get it out if necessary. Thanks.

Steve

I actually had to use a little emery paper on the 22 shell to get it to fit in, then a couple of taps and in it goes. I pulled it out with a pair of pliers with moderate force. I have had mine in for 5000 plus miles and have had no problems. I don't think it would pop out as the pressure from the turbo is pushing against it all the time. Happy Bombing
