I finally got a temp gauge hooked up at the line from filter to injection pump. My pressure is around 10 psi. I pinched the return line and it goes to 60 psi so does that mean my filter is plugged or the ofv is going out?

How do you know if the filter is clogged ?

thanks

If the pressure goes almost instantly to 60 PSI, the filter and pre-screener are OK. If it takes a bit of time to get to 60 PSI, the filter or pre-screener could be clogged up or the fuel pump could be a municipal variety. (It may be hard to tell the difference between the two pressure changes. :))

In either case, the overflow valve on the p-pump is not working. It should be regulating pressure to about 30 PSI.

On a fuel pressure test the pressure should be no less than 20 psi after filter. Revving the engine at idle the pressure should go 30 psi. .

When you pinch the return line if pressure goes up it is the overflow valve if the pressure goes up slowly or does not go up at all it is the lift pump.

thanks guys for the info. I am thinking about removing the ofv and putting a adjustable reg. I am not sure if it needs to be 1:1 though.

I do not want to have this problem again. Also I hate not being able to actually adjust this... ...

Any ideas?

Seems like alot of trouble for a small problem. In all my miles I have replaced the OFV exactly once.

I know what you mean but it would only take like 15 minutes to install. All you need is a feed line and a return line than set the pressure and drive. The pressure will always be the same because these basically never break... . Oo.
