You'll Never believe this - -

Hello, I think I have a squrriel in my garage. I Think I do, so not to take a chance, I want to set up a havahart type trap. What is the best bait to lure with? I was thinking about peanut butter. Thanks in advance!

I know this might not fit topic, sorry!

Squirrel and gravy! Mmm Mmm

Thats what I'd be thinkin':-laf! Peanut butter should be the ticket to invite the little tree rat, to lunchOo. ! GregH

Mama's Squirrel Stew

~ 3 squirrels, quartered
~ Tony Chachere's Creole seasoning
~ 2 strips bacon, cut up
~ 1/2 stick butter
~ 1 onion, chopped
~ 4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
~ 2 bell peppers, chopped
~ 2 stalks celery, chopped
~ 3 potatoes, cubed
~ 5 cups water
~ 1/4 cup burgundy wine

Rub the creole seasoning liberally over the squirrels.

In a dutch oven, melt the butter. Add the bacon.

Add the squirrel to the dutch oven and brown evenly. Remove.

To the dutch oven, add the onion, garlic, peppers and celery. Saute until the veggies are soft.

Add the meat back to the pot along with the water and potatoes. Stir together.

Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer 1 1/2 hours stirring occasionally.

Remove the squirrel pieces. Cool and debone.

Return meat to the pot. Stir in the wine. Heat to boiling again then reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes.

Serve over biscuits or toast.

Enjoy.

Surely, you have some kid in the neighborhood that has a BB gun that needs to be sighted in ! :D

Look at my sig. I live in NEW YORK CITY!

They would arrest the kid and put the animal on a pedestal, besides bb guns are illegal here. It's a shame!

I was thinking about getting my handgun permit just because I can, and they don't like to give them out

This is no joke. Kill the sucker fast!! Had a mouse in my garage and it made a nest in a pair of tennis shoes under the work bench. Another nest in the air filter of the wife car. I checked the air filter on my truck and found the under side tore up pretty bad. #@$%!

Ok first do people really eat squirrels? or are you joking ? second get the rodent out they go nuts when they are trapped one chewed the crap out of a lot of my stuff. Can you keep the door open the let him get out? When you dump him if you catch him with the trap take him at least a mile away they are territorial another one will just take over his turf. BB guns and long guns are not illegal. In NYC ,pistols are.

Well it looks to be a false alarm. I havent set a trap, and seems like I wont have to. Thanks for the advice.

I did come across this though. YouTube - squirrel Launcher!!!

Hilaroius!

@ mickeyblueyes, Handguns are legal in NYC, You need an act of GOD to get a permit. In fact just recently, the Mayor was just in the papers about lowering the fees but making it not easier to get. I know you can get a rifle or shotgun (long gun?) around here (legally) easier than getting a BB gun.

It doesn't get any better than this!

Tip of the hat, mega thumbs up, you'll shoot yer eye out with that thing.

No wait, that almost happened to a NRA HI Master & 747 pilot with a . 22 and a opussum in his garage, darn richoet almost grounded him.

Back to our regular programing.

YES SIR, Squirrel is T H E finest dining and it gives you character:-laf! It has made me the MAN I am today:D. Really and seriously. City squirrels, depends on where they live. Garbage fed , NO! Mast fed(wild nuts, fruit, small birds and birds eggs) There is some fine eatin'! You dont have to be a Southerner or a Hillbilly (which I proudly, AM!) to enjoy small game at its finest. I like beef, also, BUT! Prefer ELK, Bison and Antelope. White Tail deer are a close second. I like squirrel better than rabbit! GregH

Greg,

If you was cooking this delicacy, I just might pull up a log to sit on and try it. Gotta be no worse than watching Popeye eat his spinach growing up, look what it did for him!

I see you now on a cable info-mercial, Uncle Greg's Squirrel extract fountain of youth elixar, tonic and hair restorer.

The problem with eating squirrel is that you will soon be spending your whole fall looking for your nuts. This thread was already headed downhill. :-laf
