Any thoughts on the Firestone Transforce AT, or HT in a LT265/70/17 thinking of down sizing my tire size. I really like my Hankook's ATM LT295/7017plenty of tread left, looks brand new.

I have heard some good things about the AT Transforce on some forums.

How many miles on the Hankooks ??

Are they an AT or MT (ATM has me a little confused):-laf

TIA

I absolutely love them. Here is a picture of the driver's side front on my '07 with about 30K on them. I'm guessing there is at least another 30K in rubber left there.

They have worn perfectly even with no cups or feathering. I rotate them every 7500 miles or so. I do have to admit that I did have them rebalanced one time after I lost a weight off of one of the wheels. Unless something really strange happens, we plan on replacing the Michelin LTX At's that are currently on the '04. 5 with a set of these when they are worn out.

I had them on my dually (235/80/17 E's) for only 38K about 30 months. The tread life was ok but all six developed a crack on both sides of all six tires, right where the bulge was (80 psi).

IMHO they arent worth the savings.

I really like the GoodYear SRA's

Mac:cool:

I run the HT's on my 2-wheel drive dually, I believe they are the best tire for the money out there (the best tires are Michelin IMHP) and I always can get 60k miles out of a set, I ran them on my sold 01' 4x4 dually too

when they get some miles on them they make great trailer tires too!

The Hankook's are the ATM's and had about 12,000 miles on them, they do not even look over 2000 miles on them. This is a very hard compound tire that can stand the abuse. I first saw these up in BC on a logging road used on a 1 ton dually ram,the road surface had that chipped shale rock spread out across it to keep the logging trucks from rutting the road during winter time, but it just cut the crap out of the nitto, michelins and BFG on the Fords and Chevrolet trucks the other Ram had Firestone A/T also. The Hankook hardly was sliced up at all, they had been on for about 7 months he said I did not know how many miles for he had to go. These ATM's were bought for are cab-over camper to widen the stance on the rear axle. We are towing a trailer now and do not need such a huge tire,I just test drove the Firestone Transforce AT,and first impression is that it too seems to be a hard compound tire as well. 168. 00 a tire at this Firestone company store is what I paid. They basically match internet plus a little shipping. See you all down the road.

So have you guys that are running on the Hankook ATM or Transforce AT driven them alot in the winter rains yet??

Do you like the way they handle in the rain and/or snow or are they unpredictable??

Hard tread compounds that resist wear tend to offer sub par winter traction... though it would be great to find a tire that offers the best of BOTH traction and wear... .

BUT I don't think anyone has manged that yet... #@$%! :-laf

I've had the Transforce AT's on for the last two winters including the massive snows we had here the winter of '09-'10. I am happy with the winter traction and they seem to even handle ice well. They were still fine last winter and I'm interested to see how they do this next coming winter being around half tread.

I also want to mention that both of my trucks spend a great deal of time off-road and on gravel/dirt access roads. I have not seen any sidewall problems with these like I encountered with the factory BFG's. To be fair, there have always been Michelin tires on the '04. 5 and they have also held up extremely well. But, at almost $100 more each for the Michelin tires over the Firestones, I'm really having a hard time justifying the additional cost.

i've got transforce at's (235 85 17e) on my 4x4 dually. I like them i haven't had any problems with them summer or winter. My smarty gets here tomorrow and my DTT built transmission should be ready next month. If they can hold up to my driving after that then that's saying something.

I've got the Transforce AT's on my signature truck. So far I have almost 30K on them with no complaints. Even wear, good ride and great traction. Instead of balance weights, I used the Equal balancing powder. I don't have to worry about losing weights, mud on the wheels, or anything else.

Thanks guys, those are all really solid testomnials, coming from different drivers with different haevy trucks being driven in all different sorts of conditions, even including off road and chip shale!!

It ALSO matches what I have read about on other forums, but OF COURSE, I trust it more coming from TDR members!!!

I have run only Michelins on my vehicles for a LONG time, though I am recently on my second set of Toyo OC AT 285/75/17 E, based on what I heard about them. I am NOT happy with the mileage I am getting from the Toyos OR Michelins, for that matter, even though I think that both are EXCELLENT tires (quiet, well-balanced, good handling in adverse conditions, etc... )

I will DEFINITELY consider these Firestone Transforce AT, when the time next comes to buy tires.

Does anyone have a link to what sizes are available in an E rated Transoforce AT ??

I ran Transforce AT's on my dually for about 50k miles and they were worn out. Great tire for the money (I paid 1/2 what a set of Michelins would have cost me) and they did great in the snow (I spent one very snowy winter in Castle Rock / Larkspur Colorado in 2006/2007 and never got stuck). Now that I live in the south I didn't need such an aggressive tread and went to an all season tire - Bridgestone Duravis R500's. They were a few $$ cheaper than the Transforce HT's. The Duravis M700 is similar to the Transforce AT.

Thnkas for the links... I didn't realize that Bridgestone was now joined with Firestone... I thought that Michelin had bought Bridgestone ??

Anyways, considering that I have been getting at best 28k from either the Michelin LTX-AT2 or the Toyo OC AT, all of you guys are doing ALOT better with this Transofrce AT, and on 4x4 trucks to boot, some of it driving on chipped rock roads. That's pretty impressive. I may well try these out next time.

... ..... I'm gonna have to second that. I had complaints about several sets of the Transforce ATs (6-8 sets?) I installed several years ago. I even had to trade one set out to keep a customer... . he's not typically a complainer, either. Seems they all complained about wet road slippage. I even had a set on my mother's Ford F-250, and my dad complained about the wet traction... . I've avoided them ever since. That's been several years, so the rubber compounding may have changed since then... . I've always had problems with the Michelins dry-rotting. I advise customers that if they don't wear them out in 2-3 years(50-60K) not to go with them. The heat here in Texas is killer on them, but the tread life is outstanding. And I refuse to sell Goodyear branded tires.

The Transforce ATs do make good livestock trailer tires, it seems. I've still got the set I comped on a two trailers and they've held up well, no flats, blow-outs, or otherwise in several years... :D

My $. 02

I installed Transforce A/T's on my boat trailer (12,000lbs) 3 years ago and they are holding up very well. It is time for tires on the dually, these are definitely on the short list!!
