V10 Dodge to Cummins,

New Project dodge crewcab dually conversion

Perhaps I should have said "high dollar build?

Yes, you could say that! I'm hoping to have mine look as factory as possible. I took delivery of the front splash shields last week. They cover up the side of the radiator, master cylinder, intake plumbing, etc... and will make for a more seamless appearance. I also need to spend a day tidying up the wiring. I want to get rid of some unused wires by un-pinning them from the bulkhead connectors rather than just hacking them off and taping them up. I also need to make some new wires using factory military connectors and little metal wiring tags to replace some colored wires and ring terminals. It'll get pretty tedious, but the end result will be well worth the effort.

I got some more work done on the truck this weekend with some help from my brother and dad. We got the front and rear LED turn signals installed, a new flasher harness/flasher installed, 2 mirror kits installed and a new front output seal on the t-case installed.

My brother and I took it for a test drive last night and those LED lights really make a difference over the stock 24v incandescent bulbs and 24v sealed beam headlights.

One thing that became very obvious last night is that I need to install a 3K GSK kit. The low gearing in the HMMWV means the Cummins revs up and de-fuels pretty quickly. Another thing I noticed is that big exhaust housing on the H1C really makes the turbo slow to spool. I am going to look for a smaller housing or an HX35 this week.

Thanks! The tires came from MILITARYOFFROADTIRES. NET - We're declaring war on high tire prices! I bought my PVC beadlock inserts from Trailworthy. They are good folks to deal with.

A lot has changed since I last posted. I have had quite a bit of seat time in it watching my Westach Boost/EGT combo gauge. The most that monster 21cm2 housing on the H1C can muster is 14 PSI and that's on a full throttle romp up a steep grade. It's sloooow to spool in the hills and mountains of WV. I picked up a Holset HE351CW on eBay and will be swapping that in sometime this summer. I'll swap to a 4" straight pipe then and get some more numbers from my gauge. Only then will the #100 plate go in. That should be fun!

Here are some more recent pics of the truck out on a trip testing out the new wheels/tires, installing the engine splash shields, the new turbo and my Westach gauge install.

Thats Way cool. I love it!!! That 351cw will really wake it up over that H1C/21cm. You will be shocked. Throw some 4K's in there with a plate and it will be awesome!

Ya... I checked with militaryoffroadtires.net. They said they are sold out of the Baja's. Trailworthy had a set a few weeks ago... but I waited too long. They dont now. :-(

Thanks. I was thinking a 3k or 4k would be a nice addition with the #100 plate. After I get a chance to run that for a while, the next step will probably be the Heavy HMMWV axle shaft and hub upgrades. I can see me shelling a few CV's with all of that new found power :{

If you still need Baja TA's PM me I can find them out here and shipping is reasonable

I would strongly recommend not running those tires, I've had them and they suck for everything but dirt, the ones I had were C rated projects, something like a Toyo M/T would be a far better tire. I actually just sold my last 2 mounted in stock alloys for $150

Ive had C-Rated projects too, and I agree. They did work great in dirt tho... not at all on the street.

The military Baja TA's are a different tread pattern than the projects (or at least different than the projects ive had/seen). They are the same pattern common to the 33x10. 50's that 10 cars run. These are also load range E. My main reason for wanting to run them is I am running 16. 5" H1 double beadlock wheels. They are going on my ramcharger anyhow... which is being built with 90% dirt in mind.

If I could find a set of walkers/37" toyos for my RC for anywhere near the price of a H1/military surplus tire, Id be all over it.

Update Please!

A lot has changed since my last post. I have a 47RH sitting in the garage along with a NP241D. I am tired of not having OD. I took the HMMWV to the hunting camp a few weeks back and it was a long trip at 55-60 MPH. I have a local guy who's going to build the trans for me. He's going to replace all of the usual wear items and do the steel planetaries, HD clutches, valve body, single-disc converter, etc... I'm putting a slip-yoke eliminator kit on the back of the 241 to help with total length and eliminate future issues with the slip yoke. I got my 351cw rebuilt to make sure I didn't have any issues after install. It's going on with a 2-piece 3rd gen manifold. I am going to fab a 4" straight pipe from scratch, which should sound good.

Here's a shot of it at the hunting camp. I decided to go with a 4-man top so I can have more "dry" storage and haul the whole family. I'll take some more pics and post them here so you can see everything else that's changed.

Sweet ride! I bet the low center of gravity of the truck is a secure feeling in some of those hills youve got down there! I pass through your neck of the woods every year on my way to Logan/ Gilbert area. We go 4wheelin every May for a week down there, beautiful country!

Thanks! I'm trying to keep the COG low. I ended up moving the engine and trans back 3" in the frame so I could keep the Cummins low in the chassis. Otherwise, I would have had to take the gas-axe to the front cross-member to clear the crank damper.

have you thought about working on someones hmmwv

your project is great.
have you ever thought about working on someones car for $.
i have one project car that need to convert to cummins engine.
