Just another casualty of winter road treatments acting on the pot metal.

Great stuff... .

Mike.

Wow. . I fel you you northern guys buying a new truck, only to watch it rot away in under 10 years... I think I will just keep my warm, 105 degree days!! hahaha

The real problem is owners do NOT wash the Engine bay monthly, its a myth that washing the engine bay is harmful, if it don't start its BC poor covering or leaky terminal, both are easily fix-able. I have been washing my engine bay in every commercial personal vehicle I have own for 30 Years 1 to 2 times monthly at the shop http://biocleansystems.com/# their no reason not to wash the engine bay at any drive thru self serve monthly during winter and twice during the summer, (OK lazy maybe).

The chloride that MNDOT uses is more corrosive then salt and works longer at -0 temps ,if the terminal pins are not tight the chemicals corrode the connection. The way that can looks its only time before some harness connection fail.

Yep, I agree washing the engine bay is not harmful. I wash my engine bay a couple of times each year, not to remove harsh corrosive road chemicals, I'm only removing a little dust. :D

What do the road crews use to melt ice and snow in NY salt only? that looks bad I would have to agree I will stay here we dont have that problem here in MT. I pressure wash mine before the winter and several times during the winter and really wash it good after the winter. What does the rest of you truck frame and suspension look like.

the rest of my engine bay is fine. i use simple green and a straight stream garden hose on the motor at least once a year, and use armor all to detail the rubber and plastic parts as well. NYSDOT crews use a mix of salt and sand as far as i know. the frame (with the exception of the oil pan) look nearly the same as they did when i bought the 23 month old truck w/6000 miles in nov. '05. how difficult you all think it would be to swap out that canister, if it ever decides to spring a leak? i am still on the original pump... for now. i am thinking of getting one from Geno's to keep in the back seat for when the day arrives. .

I have seen those cans like new for $45. 00, its easy to change,Yep get that back up pump,I've change that can mounted pump on side roads and parking lots all over the metro area, the in tank pump that Dodge installed over the can pump was a BIG mistake IMO,But I would be out of business if they had good judgment. I would just change that can pump and give it a honorable burial.

It was about 35*F this morning. Not cold yet. You are probably at a higher altitude than I am. We are at 2375'. Out in the country side it would have been a bit cooler than it is in the big city. Shad

We are a little higher than that but whats really nice is that all the flat-lander twerp's and lowlife tourists have gone AWAY!!!! The tourist have started 3 fires this year and burnt 2 homes just because of IGNORANCE. On the other hand they have been fined so it adds to the city coffers. They need to make a IQ test a requirement and only let them buy permits for 2 days and 1 nite stays then GET OUT or just STAY OUT!!!! Countless times they have ran HEAD ON into on coming traffic WHY? well we were just lookin around and the road just wasn't there any longer. The tow truck driver is a regular on a local radio show comedy spot with some of the stupid things that tourists have said why they ran off the road.
