Tire Dressing?

I asked in another thread about taller/skinny tires of a 4x4 dually what's available and made the comment that I may just have to go with 19. 5" wheels & tires. Those that have made the switch, what did you do for a spare setup? Not have one or bought a 7th wheel & tire?

This is not an easy option to jump into, mostly expense wise.

Would have been nice if the tire manufacturers would have offered a larger selection of tires of stock dually rims.

I keep the stock tire as a spare. If I get a flat on the rear, I will put the stock on the front and move the 19. 5 to the rear and make sure I stay out of 4WD. I pondered this question before I made the switch and the overwhelming response that it would be fine to run like that for short distances (<200 miles or so). I haven't had a flat in years on anything but my trailer so I don't worry too much about it.

I would suppose the outside diameter is the only thing to be concerned about. If it is an inch shorter, and placed next to the other tire on the rear, and you have enough load to have the shorter tire touch ground, the taller tire, with it's greater circumference and load/traction will "drag" the shorter tire and scallop it beyond use in a few hundred miles. It I'll also wear the outside of the taller tire due to being forced to ride on an angle.

Ask me how I know

I have an 05 and I switched to 225/R65/19. 5" on my dually as I remember... . these tires are now close to 100K miles old and will need to be replaced in a few months... I've still got the factory spare... the tires I run are just a tad bit taller... and now the speedometer is correct based on my GPS...

They run a little stiffer than the stock tires. . but we tow a 5er and I enjoy the extra safety margin...

65 series???

Sure you don't mean 225/70/19. 5? Those are almost the same height as stock tires.
