Finally came up with a problem - - -I think it comes with the TMPS (Spelling) My left trailer turn signal stopped working, usually simple a simple fix, I put a new bulb in and it still doesn't work. Pulled the plug and checked the socket and the only lead that worked was the hot feed - - no turn signal. Went back to the trailer and used a jumper to the hot feed and the light worked ...re installed the bad bulb and It wouldn't work but gave me a big spark at the hot feed. went ahead and put a 5 amp fuse in the line and tried again and blew the fuse. Had a dead short. I took the bad bulb out and the turn signal bulb showed a direct short. Used a meter to check the bulb and then inspected it and it appears the hot side of the bulb is bent over and is contacting the ground (never seen this before). Went back with the truck with a test light and tried the 4 flasher, only the left trailer turn still didn't work. The truck signals work fine. I pulled the plug out of the bumper and found a mess of crud in the wiring, so I'm going to replace the entire plug (It's due) but I am afraid the computer has to be re-programed or replaced QUESTION Is this a dealer only job. What is the cost gonna' be? and what kind of time is involved? We are working in the oil patch and the closest dealer is about 40 miles away - - - Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. I've always fixed electrical problems with a $0.15 fuse - - leave it to Chrysler to replace that .15 fuse with a computer that a dealer has to work on!

Thanks,Y'all

Assuming that you can't get it reset anymore (I think its limited to 3 resets), Dorman makes a reman TIPM unit that is ridiculously overpriced, but less than the OEM unit. I put one in my '06 and its working fine. It also fixed my trailer light problems.

Karter: A little more info please: 1. Dorman ? part number and dealer?
2. 2 resets- - are these dealer only ?
3. Any more info or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I put a TIPM saver (a set of relays and circuit breakers) in my 2013, and now realize that the body control module that replaced the functons of the TIPM is apparently much more robust and uses fuses as protection. That doesn't help you, unfortunately, but it does tell us that Ram eventually helps us out. Meanwhile, if you have a trailer wiring short, get it fixed so you don't fry the TIPM. Trailers kept in rural areas and farms are especially susceptible to rodential munching on the wires, leading to shorts and open circuits.

I had the same problem. It was a 15a fuse in the truck's fuse panel under the hood.

You should replace the two 15-amp turn signal fuses in your fuse box (Power Distribution Center aka PDC) with 10-amp fuses. If a short or overload occurs in the trailer turn signal circuits, it could melt the printed circuit ribbons on the back side of your PDC before it blows the 15-amp fuse. A replacement PDC will be required if that happens and the cost is around $500.

FWIW, Our '03 trucks don't have a TIPM as does the '06 model truck discussed above.

Karter - - - A little more help please - - - Where is the TIMP located in truck, how hard is it to remove and replace and where did you buy the piece and last if it is not programable, how does it protect the system?

Thanks again for all your help, Denny

Anybody, please-----Where is the TIMP located in truck, how hard is it to remove and replace and where can you buy the piece and last if it is not programable, how does it protect the system?

The TIPM is located under the hood, right next to the battery (left side) on the driver's side. It looks like a fuse box. I bought mine through O'reilly Auto Parts. It was made by Dorman. I think the part number was in the link I posted above about my TIPM swap. Its easy to swap it out, but it is resettable by a dealer, but only a limited number of times. In my case, I didn't know if it had any more resets left or not, but I didn't have time to hit the dealer, so I just bit the bullet and bought one. Its an easy swap. Disconnect the power, and unplug a handful of plugs and do it in reverse to reinstall.

Here is a link to a photo of one.

I had a similar problem, but it ended up to be the Fuse Box in the truck. The dealer had to replace the whole unit. Fortunately for me at the time the truck was still under warranty. :)

Here we go AGAIN! - - - Thought I had it together - - - BUT Oh, well! ... I got the new trailer plug, almost OEM from NAPA, it is just a plug and play setup, installed and put a new bulb in the trailer, and just for grins, got out the test light and turned the left signal on, that didn't work - - and low and behold the signal worked, have not had the TIPM re-program! This was good news, no trip to the dealer (over 40 miles away) maybe - - - hooked up the trailer wiring and guess what- - - everything works. I don't know what is next but I'll not worry until something else goes wrong. We expect to be at this location for another month and don't have to move the trailer again. Thanks for all the help and suggestion last week.

Once again, your truck is different from the OP's. He has a TIPM and you don't.
