142,000 on the clock, belt was change at 90,000. no heating problem for know, just looking ahead before its to late, someone said the water pump and idler pulley should have been change at about 125,000 to be safe. there is no water leaking at pump. at 65-70 its at 190 DEG. no load, is it a good thing to change these items now. how many miles should I change these parts. radiator is clean.

Mine went to 200k before it started to leak. Why wait??, best $35 bucks and 1 hr labor ins. policy you can get

Be aware the water pumps available today are not the same quality as your oem.no matter what brand you choose will not last as long as what you have now

Unforutnately this seems to be true. That being said, the oem Cummins/Concentric pumps seem to last much longer then any of the aftermarket brands, including normally reliable brands like Gates.

I found this to be true. I replaced my leaking OEM water pump with a gates for about $40. The gates went about ten thousand miles before it started to leak. Replaced it with a cummins pump for $160, so far no leaks.

I use Zerex g-05 coolant.

Monte, try Genos Garage for the water-pump. I keep one under the rear seat.

I use the Zerex G-05 from WalMart that I had to order online in my '06.

I just changed my tensioner and my harmonic damper, so I did the water pump at the same time. 245K mi. I've had it for 75K, prev owner had it 75K+ before that. AFAIK, he didn't replace the pump. I do have records from the original owner, don't recall if he ever changed it.

Sux to hear about the Gates pump not being what it was. No surprise, nothing is what it was, but that's what I used. Even if it doesn't last 245K, it didn't die between FL & NY and it probably won't die in the next couple of years.
