Holly cr@p, I went to the dump in the new truck. empty weight coming out was 8220. Given that I weight in at around 225 and had a few pounds of plastic cans in the bed the truck weighs almost 8K. Fuel tank was full. The 2001.5 weighs around 7K coming out of the dump with me in it. So new one is about 1200 more. Snoking

When you sent the text of your weight I was guessing 1,000# more than SNOKING #1. And then think of how good the mileage is on such a heavier truck. Truly amazing!

Maybe it is the Duck Tail shape of the tailgate! As it is not the shape of the giant hood. The low 1700-1800 RPM's at 80MPH have a lot to do with it. When I get the hitch installed I need to weigh the front and rear axles separately to know how much pin weight the truck can really handle on the RGAWR of 7K. It should end up being in the 3500-3600 range. From the numbers I am looking at the 2500 would be very limited on 5th wheel pin weight, with a 6K RGAWR and 1700 pounds less in GVWR. They have really separated the 2500 and 3500 into different trucks, which was not true for many years.

If one is going to tow a 5th wheel of any size get the 3500 and if you are going to tow a large 5th wheel, then get the dually! SNOKING

The payload on my 2015 2500 is 2300 lbs, the empty pin weight of my new 32' 5th wheel is 1300 lbs. It barely squats when lt's hooked up and it could certainly handle more. I even have a 2" leveling kit and the truck isn't that far from level.

The Aisin is also overkill. My 2500 with g56 towed a 14,000 lb loaded livestock trailer with slightly shifting cargo (cattle) admirably.

It was remarkably stable with stock firestone hwy tires,

I only wish I could have pulled it through the mountains. But would have needed a downshift or 2 to do that.

If you have $2500 to throwaway, go with the Aisin. But all of the engines with these various trannies have some type of torque derating.

Yep, the manual is 650, 68RFE is 800 and Aisin is 865 is 2015. Most that have the Aisin do not consider it a waste. 68RFE is 600 and Aisin 2995. Difference of 2395 is well worth it to those that tow. Snoking

I am glad that you are happy with your truck. We run 26-2800 pin weight heading to Arizona for the winter. Our new truck has aa 36xx payload listed on the door jam, which will allow us to move up to a larger trailer in the future. Snoking

Ok, I was just jabbing at your Aisin like some have jabbed at my G56. Last summer someone said the G56 was a poor excuse for a transmission. Lol

The ease that the Aisin helps get the load rolling is well worth the cost when towing anything a 3500 SRW or DRW is rated to tow. The BUMP in power is icing on the cake!

Truth is none of these trannies is perfect. But the manual option was what sold me on the ram.

They don't build them like they used to. I want a sturdy, heavy trailer. They are hard to find because manufacturers think everyone wants a light weight.

There are some independent builders building campers on gooseneck flat beds. That looks like my best option.
