New truck dilema

I agree with you JHawes. My recent purchase was conducted entirely through emails. I'd sooner get a root canal than deal in person with a salesperson and sales manager!

All the trucks are 50 state legal now. A local rancher just brought home a used 2013 from Lytle, Texas that he bought visiting a bull sale. Had to get it weighed, a smog cert, pay tax and reg fee's and he was on his way.

Now if I was buying an older rig, I would be hesitant. I actually owned a new 2003 for a few months. That is until the 2004.5 HO California approved engines came out :D.

They were 50 state legal in '06 too but had to have that California certificate on the valve cover. The DMV gal knew right where to look. Sounds like California wised up and stopped demanding it. Guy in my neighborhood just took delivery of a "15. Jeez those things are nice.

I smile a lot driving my new 2015! Had it about 7 weeks now and the smile is still there. And of course I had the 2001.5 14 years and still smile about that one and the 93 W250. SNOKING

The smiles just get BIGGER, it's kinda scary!

What's fun is towing for 1,300 miles then take your truck for a spin. Feels like a sports car.

I bought a new 2015 SLT in Oregon when my California 2003 cummins (yes, the engine itself) bit the dust. The Oregon dealer did use my zip in California to figure everything, and they sent the extra money they collected for sales tax and title to my local DMV. The problem I had is when I got back to California with the new truck, I took it to my local dealer to fix a mirror that did not fold-away as it should. They flashed and/or unhooked the battery. California requires a vehicle that is bought in another state to be both smogged and registered within 20 days, so I went to get is smogged and then found out that the monitor tests that must run on the truck were not complete. Long story short, it took me several weeks and an extension with the DMV to get the monitors to run. If I had purchased the truck in California (which was not an option considering that I was stuck in Oregon with my 5th wheel), I would not have had to worry about Smog or personally registering the vehicle. My advice is only that if you buy it out of state, you do not need to worry about whether it meets emmissions, as they are 50 state now (unlike my 2003), but drive it home and don't unhook the battery or allow any flashes before you go smog it. (Unless, of course, you are one of the few who lives in a county that has no smog requirements.) Have any dealership warrantee work done after smogging! Sorry, I'm off of the rebate issue, but I am responding to other posts about purchasing out of California for California registered vehicles. Just been there and done that.

Excellent Advice. I have ta agree 100%.

This is the one I bought, and yep,....... it's a manual. Funds should clear tomorrow. We're gonna have it shipped to the house. Ken Garff Dodge in West Valley, Utah was the dealer we bought from.

It's been interesting making a sale over the phone and e-mails. I must say that it's more enjoyable than plopping my *** down for 4-6 hours at a dealership, haggling with a floor salesman.

See?! ;)

Glad you are buying.

Mine would fit if I pulled out my welding table, my welders, plasma, lathe, drill press......you get the picture. I have never been able to park under cover for my entire life. I did however, make a promise to myself that I'd wax this one more than once every 5 years.

Me too. And we stayed within our budget which is great.

We paid cash for the first year of college for our eldest, and the 2nd year will almost be covered 100%. My wife also needed a new rig this year, so she's sporting her new little white Durango, but........ we also have to buy another vehicle next year when our eldest comes home from Chico State for summer break. We/I (Dad's rule) didn't allow her to have a car the first of Chico State.

It's has been a very expensive year for us.
