I should know better than to walk through the gun shop on a snowy Saturday morning with money in my pocket. On the counter was a display of Liberty Ammunition Civil Defense lead free rounds. On sale, so I picked up a few boxes of 380 auto to play around with. Their advertising states up to 1500 fps out of such a light round.

Did a quick search when I got home and it seems like the reviews are all over the board on these light rounds in any caliber. Some just love their performance, others not so much. I haven't shot these yet, but does anyone have experience with the new lead free cartridge offerings out there?

So wear a THICK Heavy coat and with this crap is NO GOOD!!

It's just my thought to practice with "at least the bullet weight" that your going to carry. Cheap shooting may have been the idea for buying these but at what cost?

Deep penetration depends a lot on bullet weight & construction (im sure we all knew that) even my carry weapon I have a mix of projectiles, HP's have a notorious reputation for deflection going thru a windshield or door of a auto or even a thick all wood entry door to a house. While Solids (FMJ's)tend to poke nice clean holes into just about everything they come in contact with. Its IMO better to error on the side of POWER or Penetration than to end up using your weapon as a CLUB!!

Quote: Newtonian mechanics, a projectile stops when it has transferred its momentum to an equal mass of the medium. If the impactor and medium have similar density this happens at an impact depth equal to the length of the impactor.

Big bullets make big holes, heavy bullets make deep holes. However, over expanded bullets may not penetrate deeply enough. The point to remember is, placement is the single most important factor in immediate incapacitation. A bullet must penetrate deeply enough to reach and damage vital organs, such as the heart. Immediate incapacitation occurs when the central nervous system is interrupted, either by contact damage or by anoxia from blood loss. Even with a punctured heart an assailant can function for about 11 seconds.

9mm have gotten so small recently, I no longer see the point in a 380.
Plus the availability, price & performance of the 9mm round compared to 380......

edit, sorry. didnt see the date on this until after posting....

When things turn to crap 9mm will be easier to get. 380 is great for conceal carry IMO
