Anybody have a part number for the pinion seal for the front? 9.25 AA Those nice people want $464 to install one and $27.50 to buy one.

Thanks

There is a good deal of risk installing the front pinion seal.I am not sure how many diyers are up the task. The cost of an overhaul due to an improperly set up install may not be worth the risk.

Is it a crush sleeve? Why so difficult? Just curious.

What the book says is to remove the axles and a bunch of other crap. I had the rear done under warranty and it said to do the same stuff so I asked the guy if they did all that and he said no.
I agree with that because it took less than an hour. I'm sure someone has done this on this forum and will respond, they always do. :D That's why I have kept my subscription up all these years.

Measure rotational force to turn pinion, record, remove pinion nut, carefully remove pinion yoke, pry out seal, install new seal, install pinion yoke, use red loctite on nut (new nut preferably), tighten to same rotational torque as prior to removal.

The rotational torque is not accurate with the axles in place in the front end,It is not a hard job,but like I said a mistake can be costly

Just because you can do it the fast way does not mean it's the right way. Most dealers are going to do it the fast way under warranty because when they screw it up the factory gets to pay again. Like Bob said, it can be done the fast way if your good, and most of all lucky.

Now you can justify a free spin kit. And you can stop the pinion from turning most of the time anyway.

Thinking out loud, I wonder if the aftermarket has a crush sleeve eliminator kit like what's out there for the more popular diffs. Done thinking out loud.

Hi Had my front pinion done at 82K, now at 105K weeping slightly, took it in, we decided to let it be - I just watch the fluid level. Free spin kit is on my list as well...

Good luck,
.Luke

Are you sure that the pinion seal is really leaking? The engine crankcase breather tube and the fuel filter drain hose is not far from the pinion both tend to slobber on the axle and can make it look like the seal is leaking....

Thanks Flopster, I think I'll try your way after checking the vent (not very confident that will be the problem). I've never been that lucky. I didn't want to remove the axles either after reading all the problems that can be encountered, looks like a big PITA.
