Florida charges tax not only on the cost of the fuel filters but also a seemingly hefty tax on repairs to Tangible Personal Property.

I doubt I can get a deal that good from any dealer here unless I buy a package of 4 or 8 oil and fuel filter changes.

Not about to do that when it takes less time for me to do it in the driveway (less time than going to the dealer and waiting)

Newsa, the owners manual specs a 15k or once a year fuel filter change interval whichever comes first.
I'm not aware of any particular sensors on the fuel system that actually measure fuel filter restriction, which is the only effective way of measuring when a filter is restricting fuel flow so I tend to think ignoring that filter minder and using your own judgment is good enough
I'd wait until I hit a year or 15k.

this secondary fuel filter was in my truck for 17,000 miles.
it isn't particularly dirty, nor would I have worried about using it some more if I had to

Maybe if you actually USED your truck you’d understand why some of us complain about cost. If it was once a year I’d be thrilled. For some here it’s quarterly, if not more often.

I'm guessing you also buy the $25-30 per 2.5 gallon bottle def at the dealer too?

Newsa, he probably uses Scamsoil brand synthetic DEF.
its made out of synthesized urea and dihydrooxide

Very similar looking. This is from my new to me HarleyDavidson ElectraGlide with 25K on the filter. actually it's a bit darker. Amazing how well the primary filter works!

hey 12V98? question, where is that filter used on a Harley?. only filters I can think of on them is oil, air and intank fuel filter on the injected bikes.

What year is your Harley? That is not oem to the newer Harley's.

like someone else said, anti seize isn't a good idea but you could use weenie slicker ( vaseline) for install purposes.. but it would dissolve where it contacts fuel.

Same here. *.mil always called for PET (petrolatum) on packings (o-rings) for aircraft maint. I've never gotten out of the habit.... Cheap uncented vaseline from Walmart in every tool box.....

The filter is inside the fuel tank along with the fuel gauge float and fuel pump.

hey 12v98, nice bike. I'm sure your bike is injected,or it should have been fuel injected when built as the MOCO to the best of my knwledge had gotten rid of carberators by 09. technically as part of alphabet soup Harley uses its model name actually has a I at the end of the long name. aka its probably a FLHTCUI.

anyway,which basically means and FLH chassis, Ultra Classic trim with injection LOL.
if that filter you pictured is in there, I can honestly say that I have never seen anything like that before inside the tank of a Harley...

NOPE, it is installed in a plastic housing with a U shaped retainer clip. Wish I had taken a pic. There is a big locking ring that has to be removed for the guts to come up thru the tank.

Yes it's injected. All documentation I have says FLHTCU.

Harley has never used that type of filter in the gas tank. They dropped the "I" off the end of the title when everything went injected.

you are probably correct on that I subject. it became a moot point once they all got squirted.. LOL as far as the filter goes, that cheesy little thing that 12V98 posted looks like something somebody cobbled together, not something the MOCO would do.

Actually it's a nice quality filter designed for change at 25K. I was impressed with the system.
