12v98, I figure the truck engine will outlast me, just doing it the way I am doing it... hard to define "better" I lean toward good enough on most things mechanical... I have the benefit of having worked in a fleet for 40 years now, and know how long an Cummins ISB that only gets low bid oil and cheapest filters(fleetgard must be cheapest because they buy them most of the time) can last under severe use in a public transit application.. its somewhere around 350,000 miles before it starts to have so much blowby that we have to remove it.. basically I don't think most of us on this forum will have any engine wear issues if we just change the oil and filter on that 6 month schedule, no matter how cheap or pricey the route any of us go..
show you a couple pics. these are 2006 Optima 30 foot buses , they are retired. they have a 31000 pound GVW and a rear gear train ISB 6.9 with EGR. they all went 300 to 350,000 miles on that engine using low bid county bulk oil and whatever filter the procurement dept gave to us. I don't think I ever saw one engine fail, but they did wear out.. that was in a duty cycle which consists of driving at an average speed of less than 10 miles in a hour, with several stops per mile, 12 to 18 hours a day for ten years. really amzing how tough a Cummins ISB is, and as I said that is using the cheapest 15w40 they can buy and getting the crap ran out of it all day for years
