Thanks Joe, so far my Cummins 180* stat is doing great. It wants to stay at about 183* light cruising, and seems to open about 188* and will drop to 178 on a slight down hill or idle. I did pull one good hill and the clutch came on at 197* and cooled immediately, I was at the top by then. This is with cool outside temps,40's-50's.

I broke down and bought a couple new batteries for my 01 yesterday. Got a decent deal at Mills farm/fleet. Got 2 to fill the trays at $94 ea..840cca.

Nick, sounds like things are working well. Glad to hear. Way it seems now it should do the same when weather starts to warm up. Fingers crossed for you. Merry Christmas!

Coolness, what brand and group size? I went with Napa (East Penn) 8434/78, only 770 cca:( I didn't need the side post 78's but they only had one standard Group 34. I also don't want any battery with fill caps, too much maintenance. I like the vent port style.

Thanks Joe, I think so too and am excited to see what happens. If it was the lack of a Cummins t-stat I am gonna be mad at Napa:eek::D Merry Christmas to you too!

Nick, I hear ya on that. I think it's odd that there could be a difference between aftermarket and an actual Cummins T-Stat and/or Water Pumps that are such a game changer. But, over the years (here on the TDR) I've read many threads discussing this particular situation related to T-Stats and Water Pumps and they all pointed to going with Cummins parts. Interesting for sure...

I had interstate before, lasted 6-1/2 years. Will see on these. #2772

If you don't like cold or snow, why would you move to Snowflake?:D Might have to fire up the Bobcat or Grader today, lol.

Meanwhile it's 50* here. Just took the dog out for a run (the dog runs, I walk :D) in a t shirt.
Feels like spring again!

Luckily, latest storm missed us for the most part, snow North and south, little bit of ice this morning. 57 degrees yesterday, 20 today. I am hoping, since plow truck is ready to go, that it will not snow much in my area.:) Hoping that statement does not come back to haunt me.

I know it is winter but....I installed a 12" electric auxiliary cooling fan right behind the blockage of the front license plate area of the bumper. I have just on an on/off switch. I really like the looks of the 4th gen bumper on the 2nd gen, lots of air flow...might have to get one so I can call my truck a 2nd gen .5:D

Quick video of a cool first start of the day 36*. Note the smooth idle and only faint smoke haze. This is with 290k on RV injectors, installed in '03, 326k on original VP pump with Edge Juice on level 2. Never any additive or 2 stroke oil. Video is a little slow to start due to grid heater cycle.

Nick, good idea to place an electric fan behind the license plate area of the bumper. Would like to see how you mounted the fan.
Any pictures and what fan do you use?

Michael
