No, they did it because it is a safety recall and the feds track the completions. They just did ours the other day when it was in for the blown clutch hydraulics at 4400 miles. Didn't ask them to, but they did it, most likely so they can bill FCA and get some more money.
Here is the update:
No B checks were performed. A checks were OK and they Skipped B (per procedure). They apparently skipped weld step C3 (check to see if the torquing affected steering wheel center) , see photo. It looks like the steering wheel is about 15 degrees to the left of center when the truck is straight.
.......(snip)...........
So i just got off the phone with FCA case person and they talked to the special service team for the recall and they are getting with dealer and see what they can do to move this along maybe putting a after market drag link in till they have the mopar part for the recall. It sounds like they want me to go back to have the recall performed after they get the 2015 in for the recall. i can live with that if the special service team goes for it
It sounds encouraging i would have to have them put the old one in the back the truck when i pick it up. Because a i live in NY and the dealer is in Conn and i never want to go back there again. We will see what happens at the end of this the way case manager sounded it's going to be a long time before this recall is done on the 2015'sThat sounds encouraging! Hope they work it out for you. I wonder if one installs an aftermarket one and when it is ready of the recall they carry that in to them and asked them to test it for the recall. If it needs replacing have them go ahead and do that.
I am a little afraid to get my truck near a dealer and have them ground it because no parts available. We have to tow the commuter trailer back to Washington in 3 weeks. SnoKing
I say that's fine if you can trust them to check the parts . I'm notI don't have an issue with the "Tac Weld" fix. as long as they checked the parts. Most of us here are too young to remember the first Gen trucks there was No adjustment on the drag link. The wheel ended up where it ended up. Once this link is adjusted there is No reason to adjust it again. Unless you lift the truck. if the steering wheel is off center after an accident some thing is still bent and needs to be addressed by the body shop.
My 2 cents worth

When the tie rod ends are replaced, the steering wheel will need to be re-centered. Folks like me who keep a truck forever will have to deal with it.
I think that if it was loose I hope they checked the threads out .. I personally would not trust it .. Just meMine was welded up on saturday... They found it to be loose. They also found the track bar mounting bolt was loose... Truck drives much more solidly now!

yea I know what you're talking about! How far is it on the edge of stripping out even after the torque test ? …. I don't like testing it with my fully loaded camper and boat in tow
If its the link with the Jam nuts I say BSI checked mine when this post started and it looked tight to me. ( I did not have any way of checking the torque) I received my recall from FCA last week. Called the dealer and scheduled an appointment early this morning to get it in and out quick. They had it for 1 hour and came back and said the 2016's were NOW not required to perform the fix. WTH???? I the SR why? He did not have an answer. Oh Well!!!
