I live in Oregon and it's the same way here when it comes to the cost of used 4th gen Dodges. Have you chatted with Dave Smith in Kellogg Idaho and Dennis Dillon in Boise? I was like you looking to buy a used one and found the price difference from those guys between a new one and one that is in good shape and a few years old wasnt that much. Also the 2018's will be cheaper with the 2019's coming out now. Dillon had the best price for mine

If you are set on a used one, Texas is a great place to look but you'd have to plan on a few days down there to go look at them before you buy.

I’ve been meaning to check out Dave Smith actually, my uncle bought a new truck there and my best buddy just got a truck at Kendall. A couple of weeks ago I looked and they were not discounting the diesels much. HUGE discounts on the gas trucks though.

Dennis Dillon has their prices internet prices on their site. There is a 2018 3500 Tradesman with the Aisin for less than $45,000 and I'm sure they'll get cheaper as more and more 2019's roll in.

From what I’m seeing trucks out of state are WAY cheaper than WA State. Like $10k cheaper in Texas and lots of Southern states. I can’t even touch a 2015 in WA for $35-$40k. I always like to look a rig over top to bottom before I buy, might have to decide to find one out of state and fly down to get one.

Bought my 15 pictured above at the exact same price as DaveSmith. AutoNation gave me 5k more for my trade. AutoNation in Seattle got my business.

Before I started truck shopping this year for a 4th Gen to upgrade from my '98 12v, I was dead set against DEF(my life everyday at worko_O). Once I started doing some real research and shopping around, I changed my mind pretty quick. Then I started looking at '13+. If your budget is $35K, you shouldn't have any trouble finding a good used '13 and up. Depending on how low miles you are looking for; a good '15-'16 is in your range depending on trim level etc...
I like the 68RFE w/3.42's so far, but we go on a lot of trips, and probably only tow around 10-20% of the time.

The '14 2500 CCSB Tradesman I bought had 120,000 mi and I got it for less than $28,000 - which I think is reasonable, especially since I was dead set on True Blue or Maximum Steel Metallic(which is rarer) - severely limited my options. If I didn't care what color that would have helped ALOT

Didn't read the whole thread but the big differences are between 2012 and 2013
new hydro formed frame in 2013 and higher GVW but use DEF
2012 no DEF ,lower GVW, no Aisin (except on the CC)

Well, looks as though there is no way I’m going to trade in my truck since they all want to rip people off, so I’ll have to sell it on my own first before I buy new. Dealers can care less about the thousands and thousands I’ve put into building my transmission, better cooling system, and other add ons. Let alone even giving a fair price just for the truck. So this might take some time.

Here is a question for you guys. The 47/48RE transmissions in the third gen trucks are in my opinion junk in stock form. Any kind of add ons and they just burn up. That’s why I had to put so much money into my transmission.

In stock form how does the aisin hold up? Is this a solid transmission from the factory, or will be be likely upgrading the transmission in the future to withstand add on power.

The Aisin as any other transmission, tweak the engine, spend lots of dollars upgrading every thing else. With stock power, the 68rfe is adequate, I wouldn't add any power. The Aisin is the better trans and is why the HO only comes with the Aisin. So if you can find a used Aisin optioned truck it will only be the 3500 SRW or DRW. The drawback is the 3:42 your stuck with on the SRW 3500.

Does this answer your question? I tow 2k more when double towing. Don't mess with the AISIN. It's actually a true Medium Duty trans.

If you want to mess around with power stick with what you have. My 2015 is 385hp and 865 torque with Aisin. It tows our 5th wheel at combined 24,500 with the 3.42 gears just fine in mountainous Westenn states. 80 MPH at 1750 RPMs is a freeway cruiser.

Our 2001.5 bombed truck was a 7k hot rod. The 8500 lb 15 is a Clydesdale. Big strong legs, stronger thzn heck but not in a big hurry to get rolling. These latest truck are tuned to operate at much lower RPMs.

Would I go back to the years of bombing and expensive mods, NO! This the first vehicle that ever purchased any extended warranty on. Coming up on 4 years and 60k, and have only used the warranty for loaner/rentals while having recalls completed.

I have no idea if I’ll mess with power, I may get it and be completely fine. I still enjoy tweaking and messing with add ons, I’m definitely not the hot rod I was 10 years ago when I bought my truck. So that’s why I’m looking to Leave my next truck just a stock, clean truck, maybe just a tuner. No more lifts, no more big tires, no bigger turbos and injectors etc, just a nice clean truck. I had a back injury and I can barely get into my truck and it’s just not comfortable to sit in for me, now so I need something that’s stock height, and rides smooth. My truck rides like a tank. I drive the wives mini van around all the time because it’s more comfortable for me ha ha.

You would like the AMP retractable steps then.

Trick to better ride is lowering air pressure in rear tires. I run around 42 bobtail. 2500 tire nanny will complain. 3500's just report air pressure on EVIC.
