Lowering my truck

I'd suggest getting a new 2.5" ball mount, using those adapters can elongate the hitch pin holes and bend hitch pins. Plus, one day, you WILL forget to remove the adapter after pulling out the ball mount.

I agree. Why would you buy a Cummins powered truck then de-rate the hitch? Might as well install P tires. I see so many 2" draw bars on the shelves that are junk!

Good looking truck, RV. Best color too!

It depends on what you haul, I don't believe it's as bad as what some make it out to be. I bought a 2-1/2" mount with the proper drop for my heavy tag but still have the 2" I used on my 98 truck for a smaller trailer that I use occasionally. It's got more drop than my 2-1/2" draw and lets the smaller trailer set level. It grosses out no more than 8k so not heavy by any means, but in the 3 years of occasional use I've not seen any elongating of holes, pin fatigue, or anything else that some claim using the 2" with the adapter.
For hauling the average sized boat I don't see a problem using the adapter, but that's just me.

This makes alot of since, if I were to haul heavy pull trailers. If I get a heavier trailer, then I'll consider going with a 2-1/2". The 3500 SRW was purchased to consolidate my vehicles, to save overall with insurance and registration. The 07 C&C was starting to nickel and dime me. I went back into the field as an HVAC tech with a company service truck, so I was now having two vehicles (07 C&C and my daily driver Tacoma) going nowhere, sitting on the street and costing a fortune in insurance and registration. I bought the 3500 SRW for its capability to pull my 34' Arctic Fox 5ver and my boat, as well as the fact my wife can drive it if necessary. The boat weighs in at 5K lbs wet, and will not require a class V hitch.

I always keep a cap or a ball hitch in the receiver with a locking pin, (thanks Sno for the link) so I won't loose the adaptor. Its almost the same as forgetting to replace the pin in the receiver when done. kthaxton, thanks for the jinx, I have never done that, and now that I'm a senior, I may have a senior moment. :D

I was at the trailer place needed a set up to pull some wagons last minute, the holes in the 2.5" ball mounts are all 1- 1/4" so if you do pick up another 2.5" mount you need to check you balls for sure.

I think the pins are 3/4" or 1", they rattle no matter what, we are not going on the road more than 1/4 mile. So was better to use a 2" and adapter.

They had 3 different adapters for 2.5 down to 2, was cheaper for the adapter and 2" ball mount, then for a 2.5" ball mount. Pulling light stuff in my case.

One thing I always keep a draw bar in the receiver is to keep rice burners from rear ending me and running up under the truck and taking out the axle. Seen this happen. And likely will save the idiot tailgating you.

Just gotta remember when walking around your truck, you don't bust a shin. OUCH.

Cheers, Ron

That's actually illegal in some areas. I've never ever heard of anyone getting a ticket for leaving it in either.... Just sayin'.

I always remove it after towing the boat, but thats because of the shin, :)eek: wow that hurts) and forget about it when backing up, hitting another car or something even more expensive. But with the "Tow Technology Group" option, I can see everything on the camera's, but I'll just keep doing as before.

Now that you mention it, I recall reading or hearing about related to accident, that it extends the length of the vehicle and defeats the purpose of the bumper.

I guess the same can be said about the hitch steps.

It's easy for me to do it: the Wrangler keeps 2" ball for 10ft utility trailer; hitch step for wifes truck, I keep a steel hitch step on my 2017 5500 because the drop hitch interferes with Park Sense, feature I like. And having bad ankle let's me get onto the beds easier.

So, if your height or disability challenged, the steel step helps.

Goo point.

When I first bough my truck, I still had a small 3900 lb (dry) camp trailer, I was using a 2" Equalizer WDH with the adapter and it wreaked havoc on my hitch pin holes. Perhaps the WDH played a part, but I was not comfortable with this.

Has anyone found an adapter with better fit? Kind of a thin line between a good fix and having the adapter getting stuck in the receiver. The other area is the 2" insert fit being loose in the adapter. I find that the adapter that came with the truck is loose in both areas. SnoKing

One of these will take the slop out. Used on a hitch carrier.

EDIT: Install as illustrated. Bottom bolts pull top down, preventing slop.

Actually....I ran my 18 year old 2” 1.25” shank ball mount and 2&5/16” ball with adaptor on both my 2013 and 2014 3500’s. That ball mount was solid and was strong as an ox.
You CAN'T beat solid draw bars. Mine too are about 20 years old. STOUT and OVER engineering great when dealing with load bearing components. COME to think of it, that's the thinking I've had in buying the 6 Ram Cummins diesels I've owned.

JUST every so often, I feel a LITTLE smart for choosing Rams.

Sorta the same boat here, I have been using a B&W Tow & Stow adjustable drawbar for a long time. They make a 2 1/2" now, but not as much drop, last time I looked. It's hard to give up on stuff that gives good service.
