NOX sensor not covered under warranty?

Hi guys! I had my new to me '17 2500 to the dealer for a P225E code. Some backstory, soon after I got the truck, (58000 miles) the MIL light came on. I had a friend check it, it had P225E, U059F NOX sensor codes, P20B9 reductant suction line heater open circuit, and a few related to lights. He cleared them and away I went. 3 days later the MIL came on again. I bought AlfaOBD and checked codes, P225E and U059F. I drained the 1/4 tank of DEF, filled with new, and cleared codes to make sure it wasn't the DEF. Drove about 30 miles and the P225E came back. I called the dealer and they said it has lots of warranty left, engine, emissions and drivetrain.
So today it went in, service advisor comes out to me and says there are 2 codes, the NOX code and the suction line heater code again. He tells me warranty won't cover it and it will be $1000 to replace both parts. I was like whatttttt? He said they submit it to FCA and it comes right back if it's covered or not and it wasn't.

Can anybody tell me why a NOX sensor isn't covered under emissions? Or check into it and see if it is and they are just trying to make money off me? I can PM my VIN if needed. I can replace the parts myself but a NOX sensor is still $400 or so. And I don't want to delete it, even if the 1000 bucks is more than 1/2 the cost of deleting.

I read it as 5yr 50k, CA trucks have some additional 7yr/70k certain items only. OP says 58k on the truck. But never hurts to double check your specific truck. When I searched the CA supplement NOX was not found, that was the only location NOX came up in that specific book.

I just had mine replaced on a 2014 with 67,000 miles. Covered under warranty which I bought aftermarket from the dealer in Michigan. I never buy extended warranty on anything but it sure has paid for itself on this truck. Too bad you can't get lifetime on the CTD trucks. OTOH it makes it easier to trade in at 8 years.

The ATD systems in our buses have an Inlet and an Outlet NOX Sensor. Do these trucks have the same? I read in what Ron posted there is an “Engine Out” and a “System Out” NOX Sensor. Maybe just different nomenclature?

I climbed around under the truck last night looking at where things are and how hard it is to change them. I only saw 1 NOX sensor. The other may be up by the turbo, I didn’t look up there.
From what Ron and others posted both parts should be covered under warranty, which is what I thought. I’m going to another dealer with the paperwork and see what they say. It’s too bad, the 1st dealer is only 4 miles from my house.

I highly recommend you go to Mopar.com, establish an account, type in your VIN, and pull info specific to your truck. Also has all info on your truck.

I would go back to the dealer 4 miles away and show them your info. Sometimes folks make mistakes and if they did and admit it, all would be good
My dealer is ALWAYS my biggest advocate on warranty determinations.

Even caclutates miles and months remaining on my truck. Pull this down and show your dealer along with the standard info that is applicable to Your truck.

Ron, I signed up and looked around there. My pages don't look anything like what your pics show. When I go to dashboard or warranty there's a big ad for my local dealer and I can't get a clear warranty read out like yours. That site is a PITA! I had to sign in every freaking time I changed pages. I bet I signed in close to 20 times!
I think Timd is right, it ended at 50k from what I have read. Why couldn't the dealer tell me that?

There should be 2 NOX, and modules. Before and after the SCR cat (mid body and near tailpipe). I just took care of a full derate 6.7 F550 that had P225E and 207F. Replacing both sensors, modules and following ford’s drive cycle was the fix.
Please don’t delete upstate, with those NYS DEC *******s running around!

Yeah, I looked up a ‘15 I had an ESN for and the inlet sensor is the same as our buses but all I can find on the outlet is it says “Chrysler” on it and has a Mopar part number. I’d bet one of the it’s a rebadged Cummins part. Anyone care to post a pic of the numbers on the module for the outlet sensor?

My rear sensor died a few months ago. I was able to replace with Mopar part from Athens in GA for 185.00.

I stopped at a different dealer on the way back from a job today. The service guy was very helpful. He ran the serial number and the codes, and showed me some dealer proprietary info on what they get back when they punch in the codes. The emissions warranty is what Timd said, 5 year or 50k miles, so my truck is out by 8k. They guy also recommended I replace the NOX sensor with a Mopar one to make sure it's compatible software wise as opposed to an aftermarket one.
007Poke, was that a NOX sensor you replaced? I haven't seen a new one for less than $400 and I've been looking for a few days. Can you send me a link to where you got yours? Thanks!

The dealer system is very easy to use and removes any doubt,not only on coverage but portion of the warranty covers the component.No need to bash a dealer about your coverage,they can show you the printout.
