EcoDiesel in Jeep Wrangler

Hey Family,

I am considering downsizing from my 2500 to the 1500 ecodiesel.

should I stay away from a certain year? I am currently looking at a larmarie 2015 with only 50k miles on it.

Why?
You are ready own the 2500 diesel truck correct? You already know the issues with that truck and you do not know anything about the 2015, 1500 Diesel truck which may have negative issues with this unit! Such as why was the truck traded in and what service has been done to the truck?

In my humble opinion you would be better off with the current 2500 truck you have!

I'm curious to see how the new model Ecodiesel will perform. We all know the 1st generation of the Ecodiesel has had some fairly major shortcomings when compared to a Cummins..................and the new generation Ecodiesel has been substantially upgraded internally.

I think you hit the nail on the head when you said “when compared to a Cummins.”

Everything else comes up short - so why wouldn’t they follow up with Cummins v6 in the 1500 & Jeep Grand Cherokee and perhaps 4 cylinder in the Wrangler?

Ram is discounting its 1500 to try to out sell its competition in units sold, put a Cummins v6 in and you won’t have to discount the price.

just my 2 cent opinion

Why go to any V engine, when even Gimmick Motors has gone to an I-6 in their 1/2 tons? No V for me.

Plus, it appears FCA will be rolling out an I-6 gasser to be used in many platforms, including turbo.

FCA gets the VM motors much cheaper than they can get Cummins iron. It's strictly economics....................add to that the fact that the VM gets outstanding fuel economy and the Cummins becomes a hard sell to the bean counters at Chrysler. Those people really are out of touch when it comes to recognition of the brand loyalty of the Cummins crowd.

Don, we agree again FCA is out of touch regarding brand loyalty of Cummins!

I understand that they can pull VM 6 off the shelf for a lot less money, however look how it turned out.

I guess my original point was they’re reducing the price of the 1500 to up the sales numbers so they can say we out sell GMC and soon Chevrolet in truck sales.

Offering an I-6 or V-6 Cummins would get them the reliability the VM failed to provide.

In the long run I believe a Cummins would have increased sales without having to offer huge discounts.

You’ll get no argument from me about I-6 vs V-6 I was not aware they were working on a new 6 cylinder,

Where is it being built and what is the timeline for showing up in vehicles?

I thought the little v 6 gas in our Jeep Grand Cherokee was good engine, will it be going away?

Who knows whats actually going to show up............rumor has it a 360 hp to 525 hp inline 6 gasoline, spark infested engine.

I miss my 225 slant six in my 1971 Dodge Demon

Bought it used & drove it to 200 K plus miles.

Oh well I traded my 2015 2500 last week for a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk so I won’t be on here as much.

Thanks all for the help over the years!!! Now if I could only find Jeep GC site as good as the TDR.

Sorry to the OP for taking over this thread.

I’m watching and waiting to see how the new Ford 150 diesel holds up. All the forums have been quiet unlike the RAM Ecco . It wasn’t very long in the market and the horror story’s started. Go ahead and criticize me but unless RAM really steps it’s up quality wise this 13 is my last one. I don’t care how much they discount the new trucks.
they should allow Cummins to design build and package the whole truck, emissions and transmission system and not cheap out. Then it might just work as intended.

I think its only been quiet because Ford is barely selling them (from what my local dealer tells me, they've sold 2 in 2 years)

You couldn't give me one of those new GM "ValueMax" I6 diesels. Some dumb#### at GM signed off on a belt drive oil pump with an expected 150K belt life. "Like a SNAP!" failures under warranty while you wait for the locked up Scrap Metal to be replaced with an engine. "Just slide the trans back to change the belt." o_O Anyone recall the timing belts on Ford escorts and VW diesels? Cut the bolts on the Escort engine was faster to pop the head off after it broke the belt in an intersection: they always snapped in an intersection...

All aluminum with several low bidder "valves" in the cooling system to tempt the "What could possibly go wrong?" gods. It's a good thing the Olds 5.7 diesel put lemon laws on the books because "here we go again" with another life limited by design and cost GM diesel engine. This is on top of the fixed life expensive injection system and emissions parts.

$9300 option charge for a 6.7 Cummins is around 3x the GM option charge for the I6. Cummins will hold it's trade in value better than a 150K mile value engineered engine. Time FCA made a big 3/4 ton SUV with a Cummins. Just delete the pickup bed and add a trunk...

In depth info that makes one realize these ain't intended to go 250K without $major$ maintenance work.

Just to be clear, I call them Gimmick Motors for a reason. I was only referring to the I-6 architecture. On another thread I had mentioned some of the thing you point out, and commented on the red hot emissions stuff hanging right off the turbo and residing under the hood. Well, what do you know, Gimmick Motors has now had to admit that they had to keep the tow rating down on the 1500 Duradud because of thermal concerns.
