Today while driving, I heard the engine fan come on, which doesn’t happen much here in winter in Oregon. Funny thing is, it never went off. It is loud...

I Made a stop for about an hour and when I started the truck up, the fan was on. It would not kick off.
Engine is running at normal temp 180-190. I turned the AC, defrost, all off. No change.
This is a 2019 2500 bighorn. I have drive it about 1,700 miles so far.
I stoped by the dealership where I bought it on the way home, they would not look at it and made me make an appointment, soonest they had was a week out.

That's crazy, when I bought my '12 I went through 2 water pumps in 25k miles new from factory so I deleted and put in a 190* t-stat and my fan actually hasn't ever kicked on even when towing in the summer or stop and go traffic.

Weird that yours would be stuck on at only 1,700 miles. Sounds like an electrical glitch.

You would think it would set a code being on all the time... either a relay is stuck or a sensor is bad... just WAGing here. Pls let us know what it ends up being.

Good luck and Cheers, Ron

Any way you can reach the plug that I think is on the driver side half way down the fan shroud. That's if it's still in the same spot. Maybe you can unplug it and see if it still turns on.

Maybe even look in the PDC and check to see if there is a fuse and or relay you can pull.

Cheers, Ron

Hahaha. I'm sure I'll get there one day lol.

OP start with a fuse and see if that changes anything before you have to go to the dealership. Maybe it'll save you some time.or you can just wait and have it documented.

Me personally I stay away from the dealers.

I was able to un-plug it. Fan still ran.

In the PDC the only thing I saw that was close: Relay K02 Rad Fan HI Spd* The relay location was empty though.

There is a note that says *IF EQUIPPED.
K03 relay is there, it is for Air Suspension, my truck does not have that.

Fan codes are often soft codes and may not set a CEL, but will been seen with a code reader.

It does sound like the clutch failed.

That's what I'm getting too. If unplugged and the fan was working correctly, it wouldn't spin when unplugged.

Sorry to hear about the issues but at least now you can tell the dealership what you think it might be.

comrades - i know a gasser cutch fan is totally different than the diesel. i had a 16 2500 tradesman. i went through 3 fan clutches in 11,000 miles. first one took to dealer under warranty. next 2 replaced in my driveway, because going to dealer is a giant pain in my rear given where i live. basically a new truck that sounded like a vacum cleaner driving down the road....traded it for my current 2500 diesel. ( for many reasons not just the fan ) cheers!

OK so it took 2 days but they finally decided it was the fan clutch and replaced it, problem solved.
I think it was going out for a while because the truck is so quiet now, I don't even recognize it.
Also, now I can spin the fan by hand (when engine off), some resistance but spins freely. Before, I could barely get it to turn and then I realized it was actually turning the crank not the fan clutch. The fan clutch was really locked up solid.

A few weeks before this all happened, I bought some larger wheels and tires off of Craig's List and put them on the truck (factory 20" with 295/65 Trail Grapplers). They didn't have TPMS and that was showing as an error on the dash and no tire pressures reported. After taking it to the dealer for the fan service, on the dash both fronts show 78 PSI, both rears show 70. I measured the pressure because I thought this was odd. All of them are at about 60PSI, right where I set them. Did the dealer somehow lock in values for the tire pressures in the computer? I am planning to get new tires in the next month or so and will have the sensors installed and I want it to work again.

every time i take my truck to the dealer they inflate my tires to 80 psi

even with a note on the dash saying please do NOT do that. maybe thats what happened.

cheers!

The Fan is mechanically powered by the engine through the serpentine belt. There is an electric control for the clutch. In my case the clutch was mechanically locked up so it didn't matter what the controller told it to do, it was always engaged.

I am glad to have it back, that is for sure :)
