I wonder if I take the fluke thermocouple and put it on just the outside of the line and black tape it in place how good would that work to compare to some of these readings?

Fingers crossed that our '96 w/ 47RE will hang in there for a long time to come. The original owner purchased the truck in British Columbia and made a variety of transmission upgrades (BD-TC, etc...) in the late 90's and early 2000's prior to us obtaining it in '11. He had a Banks temp gauge and sensor added to the stock pan as well. I recently added the Geno's - https://www.genosgarage.com/product/acutemp-adapter/gauge-related unit onto the trans output tube and moved the wire over from the pan sensor. Now the gauge registers temps in the 170-190 range on highway,w/o load. Haven't been able to tow yet. The pan sensor never shows any movement unless your towing at least 8K up a steep grade.

Now it will scare the heck out of you backing up a good load, I know it does me.
