Squeaky Brakes

I’ve been having problems with a squeaky break on the passenger side at 30,000 miles. Went to dealer and had service on engine, asked them to check out brakes. They say they are fine.

what can I do to check them out myself? I know to check the rotor and look for any grooves or discoloration. What else should I look for? Seems too early for new pads...

Appreciate any advice.

At least one rotor on my 15 was junk at 18K miles. I replaced all 4 along with the pads. Also had an annoying squeal that got blown off by the dealer. I found that on more than one pad the thin plate had separated. That could have caused the squeal. My main problem was a severe pulsation. Turned out to be a delaminated rear rotor. Never saw anything like it before.

I live down a gravel road and get dust... try washing them really well with the hose whn washing the truck.

My ‘18 squeaks a lot more than my ‘05 did on dirt/gravel roads. A little rinse and all is good.

Would using high pressure sprayer work as sometime mind squeak as well.

Yes. I use my pressure washer every time I wash the truck, washing brakes front and back sides, and the undercarriage. I don't worry about them squeaking in between washes and dont do special washing events for them. On my 09 4500, I once got a pebble caught in the left front caliper that I eventually had take the front wheel off to get it out... it was high pitched and loud. Didn't score the disk though.

My '15 started groaning a bit, and it turned out to be a weeping rear hub seal. Other than that, if the pads are glazed a little ride on the belt sander can break the glaze, and some anti-rattle compound on the back of the pad can sometimes eliminate brake noise.

After enough brake wear -
If there is a small ridge on the outer edge of the rotor from where the brake pads don't actually go out to the edge -
There are metal "squeakers" that are on the pads to make that loud noise when the pads are worn down too far -
I have found that the square edge of the "squeakers" on newer pads will "scrape" against the rounded inner edge of that small ridge
on the outer edge of the rotor and make noise.
Sometimes occasionally - - - and other times more constant.
If you have new / or turned / or have rotors without that ridge yet - the squeak is probably from dirt / or lack of lube on the back etc. of the pads.

My 18 I notice something similar. Under really light brake pressure I'll notice a squeal from the driver rear.. Not too sure what that is.

Got 24k on the clock too.

Pretty good chance its dust, either road or brake dust buildup. Take your water hose and spray it out real good and I'd bet it fixes your problem.

That's what a friend of mine told me, I'm not too worried about it.
